it started with the way you looked in the mirror on monday mornings before work. he could tell you were picking yourself apart bit by bit, but he wanted to be absolutely sure before making a move. that was, until those mondays became mondays and tuesdays and those two days turned into three and so on and so forth.

he knew you didn't like the way you looked. that had been established long ago, and he'd done his absolute best to remind you every day that the only opinion that should matter to you is your own, or how much he loves you as you are.

but then you became distant. talking less in the mornings, talking less over meals, even sleeping on the edge of the bed as if you wanted more space between the both of you.

he tried to strike a conversation with you while the both of you were lounging about on a weekend, but you didn't even look at him. all he wanted was to perhaps take your mind off whatever it was that was sucking the life out of you.

so much had changed in a matter of weeks. you stopped wearing the skirts you usually wore to work, saying something about how it was 'too revealing'. he figured it was because of the weather, as it had been quite cold recently. but once you continued to wear slacks to work even as temperatures rose once more, he grew worried once more.

now that he was certain of what was happening, he wasn't sure how he wanted to approach the situation, or approach you, without making anything worse. he wasn't one for romantic gestures, as every time he tried to do something nice he somehow messed it up. terrible luck, really. he had to do this with a gentle touch, he just wasn't sure where to start.

on a friday evening, he made sure to be home extra early, even earlier than you would be home, just so he would have the chance to cook something nice for you. as he was preparing your favorite meal, he told himself repeatedly that the meal wasn't for any special occasion, that it was just a meal for a friday night. and as if his luck was beginning to change, he completed the meal without any hiccups and right as you walked through the door at exactly 6:30 pm.

as soon as the front door to you shared home with kento was opened, the smell of your favorite meal wafted over you and assaulted your senses. smiling, you set down your purse and took your shoes off before entering the house. in the kitchen, kento had his hands behind his back, probably to untie the apron he'd worn while preparing the meal.

you giggled softly, a small smile tugging the corners of your lips as you saw him wearing the girliest apron you owned. he smiled at you, slowly walking out of the kitchen after removing the apron to greet you.

"welcome home, my love." he said softly, pulling you in to a hug.

for a second you squirmed, slightly uncomfortable with the embrace before finally relaxing and allowing him to hold you for a moment. after a while, he pulled away and pressed a kiss to your hairline.

"i made your favorite." he smiled again before walking back to the kitchen so he could make two plates. "i hope you're hungry. i made quite a bit."

fiddling with your fingers, you carefully approached him, staying out of the way as he prepared the two plates. "did i... is something special about today?"

"hm?" he hummed, thinking for a moment. "i don't think so... why?"

sighing out of relief, you pressed a hand to your chest. "thank goodness. i was afraid i had forgotten something... like, an anniversary or something."

"no, nothing special about today. besides it being friday, of course. now we have the weekend to look forward to." he smiled, walking to the table and setting the two plates in their respective places. he gestured to the plate, inviting you to take a seat.

after you finally took your seat across from him, he eyed you carefully before taking a sip of the wine he poured not too long ago as well. he wanted to be sure you would actually eat before moving on to eating himself.

for a moment or so, you simply picked at the food, moving some certain food morsels off into one area of the dish, and just stirring it around aimlessly. he watched you carefully, opting to wait to eat himself until you had your first bite. finally, after eyeing your food for what felt like forever, you took your first bite. almost instantly, a warmth filled your body and chest and you wanted to cry. it tasted so good, and it was so warm and perfect.

tears built up in your eyes and you held a hand in front of your mouth, shielding your quivering lips from kento's intense gaze. you swallowed the lump in your throat along with the food before looking up to him. you tried to force a smile before a few tears rolled down your cheeks.

sighing softly, kento stood up instantly, walking over to your side of the table and crouching next to you. he placed a hand on your plush thigh gently before raising the other to your cheek, guiding your face to get you to look at him.

"i know." he said after hesitating. "you don't have to say anything. i already know."

more tears began streaming down your face at his words, suddenly embarrassed to know he knew as well. a soft whimper left your lips and you had to bite your lip to stop more embarrassing noises from slipping past. "i-"

he shushed you instantly, giving you a moment to collect yourself before smiling at you. "i want this weekend to be unlike any other. i made this meal to kick off the rest of the weekend. i promise i will do everything in my power to get you to feeling like yourself again. i know it takes a long time, i know these things don't happen overnight, but i am here to help."

you tried to smile but instead more tears rolled down your cheeks. he frowned. "and i know just how bad it is, so before you say anything, i'm willing to put 'that much' work in, whatever that means. you know i'd move heaven and earth for you. i'd rearrange the stars in the sky if you so pleased. helping you to love your body as it is? that's nothing compared to all the other great lengths i am willing to go to for you."

before even saying anything else, or giving kento the chance to speak, you pulled him in to a hug, wrapping your arms around his neck to keep him as close as possible. kento smiled and wrapped his arms around your soft waist, holding you flush against himself.

even though it was just a hug, he swore he could cry over it. the first time you touched him in weeks was this hug. it was simple, but he'd never forget the warmth in his heart in this moment and the way you finally let him in after everything.
