Part 28

[A few days later]

Jughead pov

Don't get me wrong: I love Jake with all my being, but Jesus christ does he ever stay quiet for just a second.

Yesterday I spent almost an hour trying to get him to sleep but he kept talking the best he could.

Ja-"daddy is it tomorrow?"

Ja-"daddy do I have to sleep?"

Ja-"daddy where is mommy?"

Ja-"do I get a baby brother or sister?"

That's just about how my night went. Answering every little question the curious boy could come up with. Eventually sleep took over and I got the change to sneak out his room and into our own bedroom and snuggle into my pregnant wife.

And then comes today, Betty is currently getting ready and I'm trying to get Jake to sit still so I can put socks on his little feet.

J-"Jake, come on mate." I groan as he keeps moving around in his seat on the table where I had places almost five minutes ago now. Ja-"mate" he says and giggles to himself. I chuckle lowly at him and quickly pull the socks on while he's distracted over the word mate.

As I managed to get Jake dressed and ready Betty walked down the stairs and got her shoes on as well. B-"ready to see baby, Jake?" She asked him as she took his hand and walked out the door. Ja-"yes!" Betty smiled at him and took him to strap him into his carseat.

I locked the door and got in the driverseat. B-"what do you hope it is Jake? Baby sister or brother?" She asked while I drove us to the appointment. Ja-"both," he smiled excited. J-"that would be lovely Jake, but mommy only has one baby in here tummy." I explained to him. Ja-"okay," he simply replied.

Not long after we pulled into the parking lot and I got Jake out of the car, holding him on my left arm. Jake and I took a seat as Betty checked in, she joined us afterwards, Jake moving to sit sideways on her lap.

D-"Betty Jones," a woman with dark hair who looked to be around forty, called out.

I grabbed Jake off of Betty's lap so she could stand, we followed the lady into a room, luckily Betty and I have become used to the routine from earlier scans and from her pregnancy with Jake.

I sat with Jake on my lap as Betty laid down lifting her shirt up.

D-"I see you've brought your son this time," She smiled at Betty, Jake and I were just watching it all quickly from the side.

B-"yeah, he really wanted to see the baby and he's been so excited about knowing the gender." Betty tells her while the doctor set a few things up.

D-"That's sweet, so you're all in about finding out the gender today? If we can see it of course." I skope up before Betty got the chance

J-"yes!" I cleared my throat awkwardly.

J-" I mean.. Yeah we are," I tugged my lips up in a small smile and Betty chuckled at me.

Surprisingly Jake hasn't said a single word yet. He's always been shy around other people especially when he's never met them before.

The kind lady moved around for a while little and soon enough we could all see the baby on the screen ahead of us. Jake looked rather confused as to what he was looking at but eventually pointed at the screen and paused for a few seconds.

Ja-"baby?" he asked, J-"yes, that's the baby in mommy's tummy." I explained to him.

He continued to stare at the screen when we saw a hand and two of the five fingers moved slightly. I smiled at Betty as Jake let out an excited gasp from the movement of our baby.

D-"well I have a pretty clear idea of the gender.." she starts, getting me worked up with excitement already.

Jake's went wide open as he listened closely to the doctor's words.

D-"You are expecting a little girl,"

she smiled and Betty's head snapped from the screen to look at me. Ja-"Sister!?" he almost shouted, J-"well would you look at that, a new princess to the family." I was filled with joy and Betty seemed to be out of words, completely speechless.

We managed to gather our emotions and the overly excited toddler and we got to the car again after making an appointment in a few weeks.

B-"I love you," Betty whispered after she strapped Jake into his carseat in the backr. I leaned down to kiss her lips.

J-"I love you, too. I can't wait to meet her." I told her quietly and laid my hand on her little baby bump.

She smiled at me and kissed me once more before getting in the car. B-"Jake we gotta make a quick stop before we go home, okay?" I already knew it wouldn't be a quick stop.

I would more call it something like - 'getting tackled by people (over the announcement that we are having a girl') and an emotionally grandmother who will force us to stay for dinner.' As we pulled up to my parents house Jake's face lit up, and was at the doorstep as soon as I put him down. He walked right in being exactly tall enough to reach the door handle. I shook my head chuckling to myself as I grabbed Betty's hand and walked after him.

luckily dad had spotted Jake coming in and scooped him up before he could make trouble. Fp-"hi you guys," He greeted us, J-"hello father, where is Jelly and mom?" I asked, not having seen them yet.

Fp-"oh right, they're on the way home. Gladys somehow got Jelly out of bed and made her go with her to the mall." he explained and I watched Betty sit besides Jake and my dad on the couch.

J-"sounds like mom ," I laughed. Betty nooded, agreeing with me. The rest of the evening went by faster than expected.

My mom and Jellybean eventually got home and we got to tell them the happy news about our little girl. My mom almost started crying, Jelly smiled and walked away with Jake, claiming she needs to give him all her attention before another baby arrives.
