The Falcon, The Winter Soldier, and The American Dream

Chapter 2

Shannon helps Sam with the Flag Smashers on the trucks...using the shield expertly.

"You might wanna go help your boy over there." Shannon told Sam, gesturing to Bucky.

Sam flies over and hovers near Bucky.

"Hehe, that little girl kicked your a**." Sam laughed.

"Says the guy who got saved by one." Bucky shot back.

"Hey, Shannon's a grown-a** woman. You got your a** handed to you by a teenager." Sam replied.

"Like the both of us did in Berlin?" Bucky scoffed.

"Shut up, man, and let me save you." Sam grumbled.

"Heads up, Sam!" Shannon called out.

The Falcon dodges just in time for one of the Flag Smashers to be thrown, by Shannon, into the side of the truck. The bad guy bounces off the side of the truck and falls onto the ground, tumbling on the asphalt.

"Wow, nice throw." Sam said.

"Thanks." Shannon replied, blocking a punch with the shield.

"Ummm....A LITTLE HELP OVER HERE!" Bucky shouted.

The trucks that were on either side of Sam begin to move into each other to try to crush him in between them. Moving quickly, Sam flies up, around, and under the trucks, grabbing Bucky in the process. The two of them roll around on the grass, then come to a stop, Bucky on top of Sam. It took Bucky a bit too long to realize that his knee was pressing against Sam's crotch. Also, seeing him all out of breath beneath him, Bucky couldn't help the blush that creeped up his neck and found its way to his cheeks.

"You okay?" Sam asked.

"Y-Yeah...are you okay?" Bucky asked, shaking some dirty thoughts out of his head.

"Yep." Sam nodded.

"Sam...those people were super soldiers." Bucky said, voice trembling slightly.

"I know, Bucky, I know." Sam sighed.

Back on the trucks, Shannon fights one on one with Karli, and she was fairing well...until she goes to kick the teen girl. Karli grabs Shannon's leg before it could hit her and throws her with all her strength. Shannon uses the shield to protect herself from the impact on the road. She slides several feet before finally coming to a stop.

"D*mn it!" Shannon grunted when she realized the trucks were now too far away to catch up with. 

She gets to her feet then dusts herself off. Then she takes off her helmet and runs a hand through her hair sighing deeply, trying to come down from the adrenaline pumping through her veins. The first mission as the American Dream didn't quite go as Shannon had expected it to go, but she was determined to press on and roll with what ever life throws at her. She activates her comms and contacts her superior for a ride. When the jeep arrived, Shannon jumps into the back of it and signals the driver to get going. During the ride, Shannon just sat there and thought about everything that had just happened. Those people had enhanced abilities...like Captain America did...like the Winter Soldier does. Then she remembered the tumble Sam and Bucky took and was now wondering if the two of them were okay.

"Uh...Lieutenant Carter." the driver said.

"Hm?" Shannon said, turning her attention to the driver.

The army woman looks to where the driver was pointing and saw Sam and Bucky about a mile ahead walking. She tells the driver to catch up with them, so that she could offer them a ride. 

"Hey, guys, jump on in." Shannon said when the jeep came up beside Sam and Bucky.

The two men look at each other, shrug, then climb into the back with Shannon. 

"Those people, they...they were super soldiers....weren't they?" Shannon asked.

Bucky nods silently, clenching his fists. 

"But...how is that possible? Weren't you and Captain Rogers the only ones?" Shannon asked him.

"I...don't know." Bucky sighed.

Sam knew by looking at him that Bucky was really upset about the whole situation. He wanted to help him calm down, but he wasn't sure what to do or say.

"So...umm, do you guys maybe wanna work on this together? I mean, you know more about this kinda stuff and all. And it's obvious you two are gonna work on this case whether or not the government lets you, cause you guys just always do your own thing. And since I'm gonna be assigned to this case, it would make sense to work together, since we'll be working the same case and all. But I'd understand if you don't want to work together, I know you two don't have the best track record with the government and all, so I'd totally get it if you didn't want to, and....d*mn it, I'm rambling aren't I?" Shannon said all while her knee bounced and her hands moved about, her fists clenching and unclenching repeatedly, and her fingers wiggling and curling over and over.

"Yeah, a bit." Sam chuckled lightly.

"You alright there?" Bucky asked her.

"I'm fine, just have some left over energy I have no idea what to do with, happens a lot, makes me fidgety." Shannon answered, placing a hand on her knee to force it to stop bouncing.

"So, about the whole working together thing. We'll work with you but not with you." Sam told Shannon.

"Meaning....?" Shannon replied furrowing her brow in confusion.

"We're not gonna work alongside each other, but whenever we find any important information we'll let each other know. Sam and I tend to do things that aren't exactly by the book, and we don't want to get you into trouble like we did your cousin, Sharon." Bucky explained.

"Oh, okay. Yeah, that sounds reasonable." Shannon nodded.

"Where do you two want to be dropped off at?" she asked.

"We'll walk from here, there's something...important we gotta do." Bucky said before tapping on the side of the jeep to signal the driver to stop.

Sam follows after Bucky, jumping out of the jeep. They walk down an empty dirt road as the jeep drives off.

"Where are we going, Buck?" Sam asked him.

"There's someone I have to talk to about this." Bucky replied.

"And who's that?" Sam asked.

"Isaiah Bradley." Bucky answered.

Before Sam could ask any further questions, Bucky quickens his walking pace, forcing Sam to practically jog just to keep up with him. Sam had no idea who this Isaiah guy was, but judging by Bucky's behavior, he knew it had to be important.
