Reed's POV
"Take a seat class, everyone, find a seat." My homeroom teacher, Ms. Wilson, instructed.
My heart was beating out of my chest. I was so caught up over this Taylor girl, yet I've never seen or even said a word to her before. The last few late students trickled in. Then a girl who I'd never seen before caught my eye. Soon, I heard Rylan whispering in my ear from behind.
"Dude, that's Taylor."
Her long, wavy golden brown hair bounced up and down off her shoulders with every step she took. A small section of hair was tucked behind her ear. She kept her eyes glued to the ground, her hands firmly hugging her books to her chest. She glanced up for a single second, her grey-blue eyes catching a glimpse of me. She shot me a shy smile, the ceiling light reflecting off the silver metal in her braces. She continued walking, taking a seat two seats in front of me.
I felt it again. My palms became wet with small beads of sweat, my whole body got hot, instinctively, my left leg began bouncing up and down. Then that feeling in my chest happened again.
My eyes darted back and forth. Krista, Taylor, Krista, Taylor. I was in love with my best friend and the new girl in class at the same time.
No, I thought. No.
I crossed my arms over my chest, pinching my arm. Even if I did really love one- or both- of them, they would never go for a guy like me. Why would they, when there's Ryan, Parker, and Justin in the class. They would have to be psycopathic to fall for a wimpy, weak guy like me.
I couldn't fall for someone this easily. I'd just end up getting my heart broken.
"Reed?" Ms Wilson snapped. I must've been in such deep thought that I hadn't realized that she was talking with me.
"Yes?" I could feel my face turning red.
"Your homework, please."
"Oh." I shuffled through my folder, finding the worksheet, shamefully walking up the aisle, turning it in. All eyes were on me. I looked up again, catching Taylor's eye. She flashed the same shy smile at me, her eyes following me then darting back to her book.
The whole class, my mind was in 1,000 different places. I kept trying to peer over Aniston and Jesy's shoulders-the two people who were sitting in front of me- trying to catch a glimpse of Taylor, but occasionally peering back over at Krista.
The bell rang, signaling the end of the first class.
"Reed and Taylor, can I see you please?" Ms Wilson commanded. "Reed, would you mind showing Taylor around for the day?"
"Absolutely not."
"Great. Taylor, just stay with Reed for the day, he'll show you around to everything."
She nodded.
We proceeded down the hallway, going to our next class. I could almost feel the awkward between us.
"So, play any sports?"
"Cheer." Her light, flowing voice was absolutely beautiful. "But, I'm not the girly-girl that a cheerleader is commonly mistaken for. What about you?"
"Soccer and track."
"That's cool."
I awkwardly nodded.
Through the day, we became a bit more friendly with each other. At lunch, Krista sat with Taylor and I, Krista's friend Pam joining us too. The three girls hit it off pretty well together. I could tell that the three of them were gonna be really close.
"So, what made you come here in the middle of the year?" Krista asked Taylor.
"Job transfer. I'm really from New Jersey."
"So, did you like, go clubbing every night?" Pam joked.
"No." Taylor laughed. "I'm glad we moved though. New Jersey isn't that fun."
"So you like It here so far?" I chimed in.
"I guess so, yeah. Having a small group of friends like you really helps." She smiled directly at each one of us. Unless I'm not crazy, she smiled at me a tad bit longer tha everyone else.
Did she really like me?
