"Sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and say "I'm the prettiest princess in all the land." I do it once a week." -Jack Barakat
Chapter Eight: Abracadabra Holmes
The three days were over, finally. Now we were on the last day, which was where we would decide who our new guitarist would be. It was down too Jacky, Hunter, Josh, Cohen, Lindsey, Ethan, Riley, Chloe, and Mathew.
Today, they were all just going to be performing song of their choice. It sounded so easy yet it was actually really hard. Jacky was up first. He played Yellow Belly by Thrice, one of my favorite songs ever. It was so sad, and so full of emotion. However, I do have a soft spot for the acoustic version, and Jacky played the electric. He played well, I did notice he was playing two chords at the wrong places though, which was bad.
Hunter played an acoustic version of 1985 by Bowling For Soup, which was a classic. Josh played Abracadabra Holmes by Daggermuth, etc.
However, Chloe came up with a microphone and her guitar.
"I'm actually more of a singer." She admitted sheepishly, before playing her song.
It was Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide by Shinedown, except she did one thing different, she screamed some parts of the chorus. And it was amazing. Let me give you a quick description of Chloe, long blond hair, big blue eyes, and very skinny and coming up to about 4'9. She was one of the best screamers I'd ever heard.
I tried to keep my face blank like I did with everyone else, but I couldn't help but gape. When the song was over, Chloe went back to her spot on the bench. I exchanged a glance with my fellow band members.
As soon as everyone else was done performing their songs, I dismissed them out of the room so I could deliberate with Chris and Luna.
Luna immediately started.
"I've never heard anyone be able to pronounce the words so well when screaming." She said.
I agreed.
"And she sings like an angel, she sounds like she is a professional singer." Chris added.
"She's definitely not a natural guitar player." I admitted.
The others nodded in agreement.
"This means that we are changing the face of Vegan Ham, guys. We're going from Punk Rock to Post-Hardcore." I said worriedly.
"A change might be good." Luna pointed out.
We all nodded our heads.
"Ash, are you gonna be okay with giving up singing?" Chris asked.
Let's be honest, I have no professional or singing back ground. I was in the school band for eight years. Playing instruments was who I was. Singing was just something that I wasn't bad at, and our band needed it at the time.
"Yeah, I think I'll be okay." I said.
With that we called everyone back in.
"All of you did very well, some better than others. We'd like to welcome Chloe Monroe to the band." I said announced.
Chloe gasped and hugged me.
I held her away at arm's length away.
"We need to talk to you about something very important." I said seriously, moving Chloe to a chair.
"We'd like you to be the singer for our band." Luna stated.
Chloe squealed.
"Oh my gosh! Thank you guys so much, I'm so excited. Wait, will I be singing and playing guitar?" Chloe asked worriedly.
