I was mesmerized, seeing the smiles so pure and so innocent with the colours all around, which could even melt the heart of Hitler. That's the beauty of these smiles. And me being the reason of their existence gives me a peace that no otherworldly luxuries could ever bring me.
I didn't have to wallow for the peace that I am feeling. The only work I had to do was to bring colours, sweets and gifts for these innocent little kids who have no one to look after.
I was earning profits in millions and billions over here. The only investment was of some minimal amount of money and the return I was getting back was uncountable. Isn't it amazing?
That's the specialty about these small kids. You don't have to give much, if you give a small fraction of your love and care to them they give it back tenfolds.
They were smiling so bright that it even makes the sun bleak. The radiance of their face can light up the whole surroundings.
The carefree attitude and the unawareness of this world's cruel besieged is like a blessing in disguise for them. And is it wrong that in a small corner of my heart that I envy them?
They love the person who loves them and ones they stop getting the love they move on without thinking twice. I want to have the same power but it isn't easy to move on, right? Even more when you know that the love you were getting and which was making you feel complete was now in ashes and mixed with the sand.
I felt a tuck on my trouser which brought me back from my grief. A small girl with the features I have come to memorize for quite a few years and would be remembered by me till the last of my breath stretched her hands up silently ordering me to pick her up.
As soon as she was in my arms the feeling of grief returned as she was so similar to someone who I have loved more than my life and an ever present feeling of gratitude again made it's presence, as she was a part of the someone who I have loved more than my life.
"Papa, close your eyes. I have a surprise for you." Her voice gave me eternal peace as well as gave me a sinking feeling of again going down the memory lane of her mother, my life.
I gave her a small smile and closed my eyes and my mind instantly went back to the time when I met her mother for the first time in this very orphanage. How our one small argument on the name of the new child that was left at the door of the orphanage at that day gave us our forever love along with the memories to be cherished forever.
And how our picture perfect world turned into nightmare when she, my mother and father got crashed in a car accident returning from temple after seeking blessings for our second child who was still in her womb when I was on my way to them, picking up our three years old daughter from her nursery.
That day my world became upside down and again landed me back on this orphanage, the only difference was that the first time when I entered here I was alone and now I am here with my daughter to celebrate the festival of colours, Holi.
You know the actual meaning of something when it is snatched from you and I realized the actual meaning of love and happiness when my whole family was snatched away from me.
The only thing I am grateful to the spirit, if there is any in the sky, who people often calls as the Almighty or the God is that they left me a reason to live and spread happiness, our daughter.
I bring her here, at this orphanage on every occasion, to make her see that though we have lost so much we still have each other and that is way more than this children ever had. And to let her know that love and care isn't bounded by some social standards, every living being craves for the unconditional love and we can share our happiness with them.
"Happiness isn't something that you can keep forever if you keep it to yourself. The more you spread, the more you receive." is what her mother used to tell me and I want to make her see that how true her mother was in every sense.
I was brought back to the present when the small hands touched my cheeks and spread some powder over them and made me open my eyes and look into the eyes which were exactly like mine.
"All people over here are smeared in colours and you do not have a bit of a color on you Daddy. You said the more we give, the more we receive." My daughter huffed seeing me.
"That's true for happiness princess, the more you give the more you receive. But come to think of it, you are not wrong for colours either. See you receive more colours too." Saying that I smeared the colour on her face and an amazing melody of her laugh added colours to my life.
With that she took off to paint her friends in the orphanage. I hope that I can be successful in giving her values of her mother, who had the ability to spread the colours of happiness all around.
