New recruit

The last light of day fell behind the horizon as I checked the time. 6:00. Only 6 more hours 'till I meet the new Recruit. This is going to be a blast, I thought bitterly. I don't like new people showing up to work for Bokuto, half the time they get killed. They go from bad to good. If you join his gang, you're basically there for life. You become a defect? You're dead within the next 48 hours. No matter, the weak die, the strong survive. That's how it worked, right? Whatever. I shook my head to rid my thoughts and began walking back inside. I live near a river which is located in the forest beyond the city line. We had to live double lives once we all joined. I went from being a school girl to killing for the fun of it. Trust no one, everyone's guilty until proven innocent. Even then, is anyone ever truly not guilty? We've all got sins to bear whether we know it or not. So how can one ever truly be innocent?

Getting over my head again, typical. " I'm just going to lie down..." I whispered to the empty house. It's going to be a long night, and for me to be on my highest alert, I needed rest. Until the new guy has proven to be worthy, I want to be ready for anything. And with that, I fell asleep on the couch, dreaming crazy dreams of how operation " Assembly" could go wrong if the newbies prove to be incompetent.

Midnight. 12:00, Saturday. March 19th

The sounds of footsteps grew louder as the newbies entered the edge of the forest. We were near an abandoned house. Pretty clean, for being left alone for 25 years. Myths say that the man who used to own it got killed. Involved in a gang and defected. Died in his own home. Some say it's haunted, others say you can see his ghost at night roaming around the premises waiting to seek his revenge. How ironic, it had a myth to go along with my thoughts of the incompetent new members.

" Ghost stories are for children. " I stated aloud. Forgetting that my boss was right behind me.  "What? Are you talking about the myth of Zen Fukushima? Sad story." I turned to see Bokuto sulking. " How so? He pledged his loyalty 'till the end, it's his fault he was sent to an early grave." There it is again. That guilty feeling. My mouth felt dry as cotton after I said those words, I don't know why. He was wrong, so why was I feeling guilty for a man I've never met, seen, or killed?

" We're here. Stop." Bokuto tugged my arm backwards and pulled me to his side. Giving me a smile, he let go and began to walk 5 steps forward before raising a hand and making a signal.

" I told you to come alone, how do you expect to work with my people if you can't even follow the directions of the best leader around?" Bokuto snarled. The new guy was the one who was going to work with us, yes, but permanently. I had completely forgotten about the other guy who was supposed to join us in " Assembly".

" Oh, come on old friend. You can't expect me to follow the orders of someone who isn't my boss, surely you understand?" The voice was deep, it came from the forest, from....Above?

" Bokuto." he turned to look at me before giving me a look. I pulled out my gun and shot at the tree to my right. " Ah! Geez! Don't shoot me! I was kidding!" A man with disheveled black hair, and what i presumed to be a tall physique, fell out of the tree and landed with a hard thud.

He stood up off the ground, brushed some dirt and leaves off, and then looked at Bokuto, then me. " Nice shot!" The man smiled.

"Anastasia, I'd like you to meet my friend. He'll be working with us for the next few months on our operation." Bokuto smiled before gesturing to the stranger. He was attractive, I'll admit, but there was something else about him. Something...off. Maybe I was just nervous about all of this going sideways? Yeah, that's it. It has to be.

I threw a glance at him before stating my name. " Anastasia. " He gave a sly smile before telling me his name.

" Kuroo Tetsurou."
