Y/n woke up abruptly, groggy and disoriented. The cause of the disturbance to her sleep was because of the overly sweet melody playing through her alarm, already annoying her though she had only changed it recently. She dismissed it at once, then opened her phone to scroll through the notifications she received overnight.
This tended to happen a lot since a lot of her following outside of school accounts were from various different time zones. With each new app came the typical likes and positive affirmations from loyal fans which warmed her heart to see. Not a single negative comment came into view, since there was hardly enough attention to bring hate to her videos, filled with talent.
On her private Instagram, made with a different login than her main, a new follower had popped up. Eyes perking up, she clicked on the profile out of curiosity, especially since she hadn't been getting very many followers lately. Strangely enough, the account seemed to be newly made, with no posts, no followers, some instagram generated user, and one following. That being her.
Still staring right at the empty page, Y/n got shocked out of her wits when her mom came screaming from another room for her to get out of bed and into her uniform. Her thumb brushed against the refresh, and the formerly barren page now had one follower and one more following, with it's name changed to "ak1ra.png".
Y/n knew that name sounded familiar, but she couldn't place it. She didn't have time to find out anyways, so she turned off her phone to go to school. Y/n'd probably ask someone who knew everyone anyways. Maybe if Oikawa-senpai was available, since he's one of the most popular people in the school.
Then again, maybe not. Y/n shuddered at the memories of the chaotic energy oozing from her senior. Iwaizumi-senpai could probably figure it out just as well. He scared Y/n less in a way, so she decided to ask the other instead.
She walked into the school, ready to go home and record some more while her parents were out, believing she stayed late for a club. Settling into her desk, she slid out her wireless headphones so the teacher couldn't see them as easily, and putting one in her ear while tilting her head, it gave the illusion she was listening attentively to the teacher.
Kageyama Tobio, her seatmate, knew well about this trick. Did he care? Not really, since when he tried the same thing he ended up losing focus of the lesson and his grades dropped yet again. But Y/n had the capability to go through the work with little to no effort and still get a passing grade, so Kageyama ignored her studying habits. No matter how strange they were to him.
Sometimes though, he'd hear the music coming out of the earbud she wasn't using and forgot to put away, and since it wasn't right in his ear he could enjoy it as well while he completed his work. Kageyama and Y/n were admired by those in their year and many people across other years too, but if the king had to say who was more admirable, without a doubt it was Y/n.
Even though he excelled in athletics and she performance, she always kept a level head and never let anything affect her own little world. That was something that the young boy had tried and failed to execute numerous times. He decided one day a long time ago that it must be the arts which gave people such a wonderful look at life, so he asked his sister to take him to her contemporary dance classes.
He practiced and practiced along the elder girls who spent much of their life on these moves and he grew in flexibility and individual muscle strength, but in the end couldn't fully achieve what Y/n seemed to embody.
It so happened that on that day, Kageyama was going to invite Y/n over for practice. For some reason since he'd gone to middle-school, he had looked up to only a few people and he wanted to become friends with the only one his age.
"L/n-san?" His voice felt like a plush carpet, comfortable and textured, though still lightly delivered. Her interest was piqued.
"Yeah? You're Kageyama... Tobio right?" She hesitated, since she wasn't good with given names.
He beamed, just pleased she knew him. "Yep! I was actually wondering if you- Only if you have time- or maybe not since you're always doing something cool-"
"Uh... you can just say it you know." Y/n stared. Though his voice was nice, when he got excited it'd squeak in a nice way too. So she just couldn't leave the conversation just yet.
"Right! Would you like to watch my volleyball practice?" Kageyama waited in anticipation, worried that she'd decline immediately.
"Will Kunimi-kun be there?" She asked, unfiltered.
"Huh? Oh yeah he's also on the team."
"And Iwaizumi-senpai?"
"Well yeah he's vice captain!"
"Okay, I'll go."
"Really?" Kageyama smiled brightly. "Okay! Let's go together after class!"
If only the poor boy knew that the only thought on her mind was Kunimi, the mysterious boy who seemed more and more intriguing to her each passing hour, and Iwaizumi, the senpai who'd help her find Akira.
Each morning lesson passed one after the other, with Y/n wishing more and more for the break to near as if she'd never get one again. The bell rang once and she was already out the door, heart pounding more and more. She whirled around the corner, eyes wide awake and glowing, in anticipation for what, she couldn't say.
Y/n felt for the first time in a while her self bubble pop as she locked eyes with Kunimi, who seemed to have been waiting for her as he leaned against their vending machine, two drinks in hand. The blood pumping through her ears and up to her face felt like a fever dream. Why was she so excited to see a person?
Maybe because this person might seem taller than usual, with hair glossier than a girls, and long, elegant fingers that look like they'd wind around her own and caress her hands as they were. She hadn't eaten recently, but a surge of energy similar to as if she'd just eaten the sweetest chocolate filled her up and she loved every second of it.
"Kunimi-kun!" She smiled, unable to hold her sugar-high in. "Did you wait for me?"
"Sure. Since you come by here and you like this right?" He walked over to her and handed her the same drink as she had the day they met. "And we're friends now or whatever."
Friends? Relief crept it's way into her heart. I really have a friend.
"So sweet, just like caramel!" The girl and her random burst of confidence took over. "That's why I like you, Kunim-"
She was caught off guard when a pair of lips caught into hers, strong and out of nowhere, the two adolescents stood like that, never moving with their eyes both wide open in a panic. The softness between the sudden move felt like velvet wrapping around them both, while binding them together as well.
"Oh, my bad. Anyways did you hear about Miya's new bakery?" A girl walking with her friend had bumped into them apparently, initiating the kiss. Kunimi broke off at once once the shock wore off, while Y/n looked like her soul was ripped out of her at that moment.
Kunimi was crying on the inside too, he had to admit. What kind of crap was that just now?! He held his fingers to his lips, in shock. "L/n-san are you okay?"
Y/n's paled tone was now replaced with a red fire spreading past her cheeks, and embarrassed she just ran all the way back to her class. AHHHHHHHHH BIUDEIDHIW I KISSED KUNIMI-KUN HE'S SO HOT EWWW MEN BUT BUTTERFLIES AHUHUIHAEHUGUAG PLEASE-
And so she sat down again, thoroughly embarrassed for the whole day, never leaving that seat. Beside oblivious Kageyama. His teammate.
