"But if you really hold me tight, all the way home I'll be warm."
It was a brisk Saturday morning when Darjeeling showed up at the track. Kay had texted her earlier in the week that it was a smarter idea to get together on Saturday rather than Sunday, so that they could just spend the whole day together. There was a thin layer of snow on the ground and with what the radar was showing, there would even more snow tomorrow. That's when she notices her little American pie standing there in an interesting getup for the snow.
Kay was in a pair of blue jeans with a plaid brimmed trapper hat. The one thing that stood out like a sore thumb was Kay's bright orange winter jacket. Darjeeling was a bit more subtle, going with a pair of leggings, a navy trench coat, and a Union Jack beanie.
"Good morning. You look nice this morning," Kay points out.
"I see you went with the subtle option for this."
"Would you have preferred if I just had worn my tanker's jacket?"
"Not really. You know how much trouble you caused for me this week?"
"How much?"
"Apparently Assam watched our little moment at the dock Monday and has now gone around spreading rumors about the two of us. Good thing it's not the only romantic rumor that Assam has to deal with. There appears to be one going around about her and a certain redhead at St. Gloriana."
"Well that was fast. So much for us keeping it a secret. Do you want to just come out about it now or just keep trying to keep it a secret?"
"I want to keep trying to keep it a secret at this point. Maybe farther down the line we could come out about it, but I don't think I'm ready for all the extra things that will come with that."
"So what do we want to do now? We have all day to do whatever we could possibly want."
"I heard there's an ice rink nearby. We could go ice skating."
"Ice skating it is then. Let's go get the car."
Darjeeling being the elegant lady that she is, expects for it to be something fairly nice, like a Range Rover or a Bentley. She was not ready for what it actually is. "It's a pickup truck?'"
"What else would it be. This here..." Kay slaps her hand down on the hood. "...is a 1984 F-150 in light blue. An American classic. You weren't expecting this were you."
"No, I was not expecting it to be such a primitive vehicle."
"Are you going to get in?" Kay had opened the door for her. Darjeeling hops in and sits in the middle of the bench seat. Kay then hops in and closed the door. Kay turned the key and the beating V8 under the hood rumbled to life. Looking down to grab a gear, Kay notices that Darjeeling has somehow put her head in Kay's lap.
"Hello down there. How did you get there without me knowing?"
"A magician never tells their secrets. Also, it's really nice and warm down here."
"Oh really."
"I like this view of you. Just looking up at you at this angle is so beautiful."
"Alright. Just try not to distract me while I'm driving."
The drive was both short and serene. It was just snow covered pine tree after snow covered pine tree. The village they passed through to get to the rink could barely be called a village. Only a few houses were there, and Kay couldn't see anyone walking around. The ice rink was surprisingly quiet, only having a nice old couple there, sitting on one of the benches. Before long, they were out on the ice. Darjeeling was able to keep upright easily while Kay was having trouble standing up straight.
