Luke
"Where were you?" I asked my boyfriend worriedly when he stumbled through the front door at three in the morning. "I've been up all night waiting for you-"
"You think I give a damn?" Ashton asked rudely, interrupting me. "You're so clingy. I swear to god."
Tears prickled in my eyes. No matter how drunk Ashton is, he always speaks his mind. He says everything he thinks out loud and this time I guess he's just telling the truth.
"Ash-"
"What!" Ashton roared, making me flinch. "What's the fucking matter now!?"
"N-Nothing." I whimpered.
Ashton advanced on me, backing me into a corner. The sickening smell of alcohol was clearly evident on his breath when he leaned in and grabbed my chin, forcing me to look up at his angry face.
"What's. fucking. Wrong." He spat.
I started shaking uncontrollably. "A-Ash. Y-You're scaring m-me."
Ashton's never acted this way towards me before. Sure he got a bit carried away in bed before, but he's never been like this. He almost seems possessive. Almost abusive.
Then Ashton did something I never expected him to do of all the things he could have done in this situation: he slapped me. He slapped me so hard my whole head flung to the side, causing me to fall to the floor. My face stung where he had slapped me, and my head was definitely bleeding due to hitting my head on the hard wood floor. I've never felt this kind of pain before. Sure I've felt physical pain, but now I felt emotional pain. Like someone reached deep inside my gut and twisted up all my organs. It was nauseating almost, to think that Ashton would do this to me. His boyfriend. The one he loves and lives for.
He immediately seemed to sober up, eyes widening at what he'd just done.
"Baby-"
"Don't touch me!" I yelled, scrambling away from Ashton's outstretched hand. "Please don't hurt me!"
"I'm not going to hurt you-"
"Liar!" I yelled, holding my hands over my ears. "Don't come any closer!"
Ashton backed away from me, letting me scramble upstairs and lock myself in the guest bedroom.
My fear was worse than I've ever felt before. I was supposed to love Ashton. Not be afraid of him. Yet here I am, locking myself in a small room of our house, feeling as if the walls were closing in. It's like when you're watching a horror movie, and you can almost tell when you're about to be jumped at, so you're at the edge of your seat until you do get scared. I felt as if I was the one on the edge of my seat, waiting for Ashton to follow me upstairs and break the door down like a monster in these such movies. I'm not supposed to fear the one I love so dearly. It makes me sick.
I pulled my phone out of my back pocket with shaky hands, unlocking it and cringing at my wallpaper of Ashton and I smiling together on our one year anniversary. I was sitting in Ashton's lap with my arms wrapped around his neck and Ashton was kissing my cheek, obviously giggling.
I remember that day like it was yesterday. Ashton had worked for weeks with Michael and Calum to make the night perfect. They set up a picnic in the backyard with fairy lights and everything, then later that night I let Ashton take my virginity. What a waste.
I scrolled through my contacts as quickly as I could, stopping over Calum's name that, for some reason, I had changed to 'Hoodzilla'.
I waited for three rings until Calum finally picked up.
"It's two in the morning man. This better be good." He grumbled on the other end.
"C-Cal. I n-need help. A-Ashton's drunk. H-he hit me C-Cal." I sobbed, tugging on my hair.
Calum seemed suddenly much more alert. "I'll be over in two minutes tops. Just let me get my keys. Hang in there." He said. There was shuffling on the other end and the sound of his keys rattling in the background.
"Are you in a safe place?" He assured.
I nodded, then forgot that he couldn't see me nodding. "Y-Yeah. I l-locked myself i-in the guest r-room."
"Good. I'm coming down the street right now. Just hang in there-"
"Luke I'm sorry!" Ashton yelled from the other side of the locked door, pounding his fist against the wood and giggling the locked doorknob.
I started shaking again, nearly dropping the phone. "H-Help me Cal."
"I'm at the front door. Where's the spare key again?"
"U-Under the doormat. Please hurry."
Before I could say another word, there was the sound of yelling and pounding on the other side of the door. Calum and Ashton were fighting. Fighting.
"Unlock the door Luke. It's Calum." He pounded on the door.
I dropped my phone on the floor, unlocking the door and falling into my best friend's arms.
"H-He hit m-me Cal. He a-actually hit me." I sobbed, wiping furiously at my face with shaking and twitching hands. "I th-thought he l-loved me."
"Baby-" Ashton said, running I to the room and attempting to pull me into his arms, only to be stopped by Calum.
"You've done enough Ashton." Calum told the older boy coldly. "Just stay away."
I raised my head slightly, wincing under Ashton's stare and clutching tighter onto Calum's shirt. "You need to leave. Get out. We're done."
Ashton sniffed as a tear ran down his flushed face. "Let me explain-"
"He said get out!" Calum yelled, interrupting Ashton and making me flinch.
I watched painfully as Ashton packed boxes of all the things he'd left at my house. I never knew how much time he really spent at my house. Practically all of his belongings were scattered across the house. I never noticed the little things that I'd grown used to. Like the case for his glasses always sitting atop my alarm clock, or the fact that I almost had no clothes without his to borrow. Him leaving could ruin both our lives, but this is for the best.
"Goodbye Luke." Ashton said as he walked out the door, placing a soft hand on my cheek, right over the place he'd hit me and kissing my forehead softly. "I'm sorry."
And then the love of my life walked out of my life for what felt like for good.
