"What are you, Zeke?" I asked sounding like a concern friend. Yet I knew him for an hour, possibly? "And what do you want with me?" A slight shrug escaped him looking out onto the world. His blue orbs seemed to see more than I ever could going on out there. "I sensed you in the darkness. A struggle of what is light and dark inside of you." He responded without a single breath. Turning to face me he went on. "You weren't suppose to end up there, you gave up at some point. Life still has a path for you, even when it's not a human path you'll see any longer." He hadn't answered a single question, I had asked. Stomping my foot, I demanded an answer. He waved his hands and a quick snap, we sat down in front of a coffee shop, the tower in the distance. He spoke ordering two coffees and muffins in French. The waiter nodded walking off.
"I'm a Prince of sorts." He sighed leaning back in his chair, dismissing the whole Prince title. "I didn't ask for this life, much like you didn't ask for it. I am the right hand, same powers and can control anything with a single thought. I snap my fingers for dramatic effect." Zeke leaned back into table laughing with a wiggle of his brows. He was handsome and smooth. He could charm the panties off of women, I bet. "Oh I can." He answered, I hadn't even asked a question. Not out loud..... "What the....?" He clicked his tongue. "Tsk, tsk. Such language on a beautiful woman of your era." He teased moving as the coffee and muffins were delivered.
Taking a sip, I wished it had been something stronger. "I am the son of the devil. His wife wanted a son which she envied whom was human. Bringing me to death, begging him to take me on as a son and make me one of his own. "I spit out my coffee, all over him it went. "Never have I gotten that reaction." He smiled snatching a napkin, cleaning it up the human way. "You're the son of the devil?" I took it in, didn't believe a damn thing he said. He'd not given me reasons not to, but it was hard to swallow. "Yes, I linger in the darkness watching and even preying on some. You though..." He took a sip of his coffee. "Something about you, I had to save. That is why, I don't play well with my own kind. I did once have a place on earth, and I was happy." He explained. "But you should know. When you awake, don't go back home. Best to keep moving, don't ever turn back." Zeke warned me, his tone changing to make me feel scared to ask why.
"Okay." I replied blowing on the coffee, still scared to ask. "Those around you will be in danger. I will be watching, I'll help much as I can. But I can't always interfere. If my father found out that I did, we would be at war. Our powers are equal, he can't kill me and I can't kill him. It would be an endless battle . One which would land on earth, where I spend most of my time." He nodded taking a bite of his muffin, I watched intently hoping there was a catch. Maybe it was a joke, a long running one and one I hadn't been let in on. But there was no laughter to follow, no hidden smiles to come. He was serious. "Okay. So." I cleared my throat hard to fight back the fear. "What am I?" Felt like I would regret asking, had to know though.
Zeke stood up, pushed his chair in then came to mind helping me up. "Let me show you." Holding my hand, we disappeared once more. I hoped this was end of this trip, though it was a nice trick. To be one place then the next within a blink. He was incredibly talented. A woman screamed so loud it startled me. An alley stood before us, others running from the place. This wasn't good. I had a bad feeling about this. His hand still in mine, he pulled me towards the screams and the horror. I shook all over, I didn't want to go in there. No one else did either.
"C'mon. They are running out from a nearby bar. Scared to know what rested in the dark at the end of the alley." If they didn't want to go, I didn't want to either! I tried to jerk my hand back, run in the opposite direction. Zeke's grip was crazy, he wasn't letting me go and dragging me down the alley, my feet unable to stop him. "No one can see us, remember?" He wanted to reassure me, I knew he was telling the truth like in the clothing store. But the waiter seen us in Paris. As people kept running past, them thinning out from lack of people left. No one had ever glanced in our direction or attempted to stop us from entering. I needed to calm down, collect myself. Taking a deep breath, I released it and took charge. I could do this, I told myself without trying to doubt it. My hand in his, I tightened the grip knowing he wouldn't let anything happen to me. He hadn't gotten what he wanted, if there was something he wanted from me that is.
It happened so fast, I barely even saw it. A girl much like me; around same age and build, but her hair pure white, resembling snow. Lifeless she laid in the arms of her predator, limps weak and moaning low enough no one would hear her. Could see the light leaving her eyes while his mouth captivated her neck holding it hostage. I wasn't sure what was going on, but knew the feeling of what she went through. Turning I hid my face into Zeke's chests unable to shield my eyes.
"What is he?" I mumbled. "He's a vampire. They feed off of humans, bite them and take what is needed. Sometimes the bite transforms the victims. It's why most are careful, and drain every last drop the human has. If not, the human will become one of them." He hugged me tight, knowing this he had avoided telling me. So, I still had blood left inside? Ugh, the weirdo couldn't even kill me properly. "This is why, when you awake. You must never go back home. Bloodlust is a powerful thing. You will have to train yourself to learn self control. " His body felt comforting, he knew the feeling of not wanting a life which wasn't asked for. Here he was preparing me for what I hadn't asked for. He pulled me back. hands met both cheeks pushing my face up to look at him.
His charming blue hues were not like the one whom took me, landed me here. Zeke's were softer, kinder, and he didn't give me creepy vibe. The human still was in there on the surface. "We don't have much more time. But I will be there when you awake in the world. Do not go home, fight the urge. It's hard, but I have no doubts the vampire vixen all will see. Will even make this night stalker astonished." He was known to hunt in the night, watching women and men to feed off of or to take back home to hell as a slave. He would go unseen, unheard, and unnerving those he watched.
There was a story hidden there, something he didn't tell people and regrets he held. He was warning me not to make the same mistakes. I nodded understanding, he kissed my forehead. And his warm frame faded, unable to hold him any longer. I closed my eyes knowing, I was leaving here, and returning back to my own time and body.
