My name is Jack Dawson, and I used to be the happiest kid in the world. A life with my family, loving parents, and a younger sister to protect. I lived in the best part of San Fernando Valley—up in Encino with all the other rich people. Life was good in the valley after my father was elected mayor—our family was loved by the community and the news couldn't get enough of my father. I immediately hit it off with Robby Keene, who used to be as happy as me.

But all of that changed that fateful afternoon after school. When I was eight years old, I walked into the house to find my family dead and cold as ice on the ground. Mother, father, and younger sister; are all gone.

"No, please let this be a dream. Please." I sobbed quietly, my eyes never leaving the corpses of what was once my family. I give myself a pinch for my mind to think this was a nightmare. I was sure I'd wake up in my bed the next morning.

But nothing worked.

Finding no pulse, I break out into fits of sobs as police and paramedics arrive at the house.

"Poor kid." I hear one of the passersby say, looking at the house.

"We will find who did this, and they will be punished."

More people arrived at the house as I walked past. I was now a sobbing mess that couldn't be consoled. After all, what eight-year-old knows what it feels like to walk into your house after school to find your family dead by unknown circumstances?

My family's death made headlines that night; "Eight-year-old walks into home to find family dead."

Ever since I've gone cold as ice, letting nobody get close to me for a very long time. But I knew that one day someone would come along and start to melt away at my icy heart. Until now, nobody has found the cause for my family's sudden death, let alone the person who did it should it have been a murderer.

However, I didn't forget one thing. I decided to hang back and hope that justice was served.
