" Look, I-I uh. There's actually no good reason why I followed you in here." He looked embarrassed. I knew him though. He was at the park last night. I must have looked shocked because he started to study me again. I could see him more clearly now, and I thought he looked good last night! He was good-looking, but I noticed his eyes were duller than before.
" You! You were at the park." I managed to say. God, he probably thinks I am an idiot. He looked like he was thinking really hard. He wouldn't remember last night! I felt so stupid for bringing it up. His eyes softened a bit.
" Sorry, I never actually saw your face that night so I didn't recognize you. Nice seeing your face finally though." He smiled. So he did remember. I was about to reply when Becca came over like a maniac and said,
"We need to go. NOW!" She looked scared. She grabbed my hand and pulled me out. My attention was fully on her now.
"Wait! What's your name?" The guy asked, but it was too late. I didn't even know his either, but my priority was Becca.
"What happened? Did Jerry do something?" I asked, suddenly very concerned. I have never seen Bacca look so scared.
"My mother called me. Your father is at my house looking for you." She said all too quickly. The last sentence made my blood run cold. My father at her house? No! This can't be happening. I turned on my heel and ran towards her house. She followed me, continuously asking what was happening. I ignored her. I realized that she was probably scared for me. I couldn't believe him. We got to her house completely out of breath. I didn't even realize how this situation was for her. She hadn't seen her mom since she moved out two years ago. I remember how her mom was a great person before the divorce. I told her about my dad and home life. She was the only person who knew what my father had become. She was like my second mother, and now she wasn't even a mother for her own daughter. I glanced at her quickly noticing the drastic changes that have occurred since I saw her three years ago. She look tired and her eyes didn't have the same brightness they had before. I noticed how she seemed dull and lifeless except for her fury.
"You have some explaining to do." My dad said angrily. My attention was flipped to him and for a moment, I saw his fear. I saw his emotions and I saw that he cared. I wanted to cry. He finally showed me he cared! But Instead I rolled my eyes.I should be happy, but I was scared to death by his expression and I couldn't let Becca see it.
"Becca inside now!" Her mother yelled. Becca nearly fell over laughing so hard.
"Like I am going to listen to you," Becca said through her laughter.
"Do it for Kylie. Please." she said in a softer tone. Becca's eyes flashed to me for a second, with worry in them. This time she listened to her mom. Becca went inside and slammed the door behind her. Her mom came over to us and I was surprised how she was still looking out for me.
"You won't put one hand on that girl, or you will be in jail." She looked him up and down with disgust. He looked at her the same way, then turned to me and eyed me with such hate that I knew he wasn't here because he cared.
"You threaten me one more time, and you will be the one without a business." He scathed at her. What business?, I thought. Then I noticed something, she had a wig on, her lipstick was smeared, and her lips were swollen.I remembered her dead eyes and tired form that I noticed the first time. OMG! I was disgusted. My dad knew about it, that means...He was a customer. Her customer! My best friend's mother! They must have seen the disgust on my face because they immediately changed the subject. They started arguing again, it was getting dark. I was pretty sure I could run for it. With the sun setting, I could hide in the trees around the park. I turned and ran without looking back. They started yelling. Then I heard the car start. Now was my chance to run for the woods. They couldn't follow me there.
After a while, I figured I was safe. I went out towards the park. I knew the ins and outs of the whole woods by the park. I got to the lake by the bottom and plugged in my headphones. I put my soundtrack on and fell to the music. Suddenly a shadow appeared behind me in the dim light left of the sun. I whipped around, ready to attack, wondering how my dad found me.
The boy from the party was standing before me, beaten to death, with cuts all along his body.
