I am horrible at any sport, so most of the people try to keep me out of the way, which is fine by me. I knew Randy would only try to get me hurt and Jerry for that matter. I had no clue how Randy would react to Dylan since he was twice Randy's size.
"I'll cover you." Jerry said to me. I mouthed thanks as we got into positions. I was doing all right today and Jerry had stayed true to his words and covered me. Dylan and Randy seemed to be getting along which I didn't understand until the very end when Dylan made the final point after they agreed Randy would be the 'star'. Randy was so mad it wasn't even funny. I looked to Jerry in disbelief and he fell over laughing. It only took seconds for me to be right there with him. Randy yelled profanities at Dylan who stood there smirking.
School was over after that I ran for the door. I needed to find Becca so she could explain what was bothering her. Then I realized, as I was trying to distance myself from Dylan, that I could talk to Jerry, he would probably know.
"Hey, Kylie, wait up." Jerry said as I stopped for a brief second. When he met up with me we turned and went straight to his car. I noticed Dylan hovering nearby and I knew he wasn't going to let me go.
"So, Is becca worried about getting in trouble?" I asked Jerry when we got farther away.
"She is afraid, yes, but for you not her." Jerry said and he looked at me in a different way then before. I suddenly wondered if her mother told her what was going on. I am sure she wanted an explanation for last night, but I didn't know if she wanted them enough to talk to her mother.
"Why?" I asked, trying to hide the anxiety in my voice. He looked at me for a moment. Hesitation crossed his features. What did he know? I worried suddenly. my stomach turning to knots.
"She doesn't want you to be in trouble because of me." He said slowly. I wondered if this was true or a lie he came with. I stared him down for moment.
"Why?" I asked again. He didn't answer me this time, so I pressed more.
"Your my friend, and my best friend's boyfriend. I don't mind getting in trouble for you. Plus it was an excuse to punch Randy, that I couldn't pass up." I said quickly, my voice turning from accusation to humorous by the end.
Jerry smirked, hiding a laugh, then glanced past me towards the school. Becca was on her way over here. she seemed to realize me and Jerry were friends now because she was smiling.
"Hey guys. How was gym?"She asked knowing both of us hated gym. I groaned and Jerry said
"Amazing!" then he grinned looking past us again. This time both of us looked to meet the gaze of Dylan. I acted as If I didn't know him and turned around. Becca smirked at me and shook her head, which I ignored too. Jerry seemed to be waiting for me to tell the event.
"Well, it was slightly better today." I said slowly as Jerry grinned. Becca looked at me expectantly.
"The new kid"- I didn't want to show familiarity- " stole Randy's moment." I said grinned too. Becca laughed and then I decided to ask her what Jerry had meant.
"Hey so, what was up with you today? If your worried about getting into trouble, I get it." I said slowly. She moved slightly, looking uncomfortable. She glanced up at Jerry who continued to look at me, not giving anything away to me or her.
"Umm, I just don't want you to get into trouble." She stuttered around those words like she didn't believe them.
"Why? I don't care" I said with as little sass as I could manage. She looked up at Jerry again.
"Your a good student, with no slips. I have multiple and it's expected of me." She said slowly again. I couldn't give her a response, so I just looked confused.
"I worry about you. I am sure it will be fine." Becca said, trying to convince herself and me. She smiled up at me weakly and then turned to Jerry.
"We better get going."Jerry said just as she turned to him. I stood there with my eyes narrowed, trying to decide whether I should push it or not. I decided not to and turned to leave.
"Alright. See you tomorrow morning?" I asked. She nodded and they left.
"So, can we talk now?" I heard Dylan's voice behind me. I didn't jump, but I completely forgot he was standing there, watching. I spun around in the same moment.
"Sure, you have a lot more questions to answer." I said in the same guarded tone. I knew it would seem sassy to him though. He laughed and we ended up at the park. I sat on the slide farthest from him. I was keeping my distance and he could tell.
"I guess I owe you an explanation." Dylan said, smirking slowly and walking over to me.
