Florence and Lara sat on their rock, letting the cold water over their bare feet.
" Paul broke up with me." Florence said indifferently, though Lara knew that she cared.
"Why?"
" I told him that I was bi. He said that he didn't want twice the competition, as if he wasn't the one who cheated on Martha. "
" He's not worth your time." Lara repeated what she had said, since Florence had told her about being with Paul.
" I know, I didn't even like him that much, but it was nice feeling as if someone would do anything for me.
" I'd do anything for you." Lara whispered.
" I know you would." Tears started to fall down Florence's cheek, but she quickly wiped them away.
" Come on, lighten up." Lara leaned over and splashed Florence, which made her screech. She glared at Lara, then leaned over and splashed her back. They were now laughing, and screaming, forgetting about the jerk that was Florence's ex.
By the time they had finished, they were soaking wet, water dripping down their hair, their teeth chattering. Florence turned to look at Lara and leaned over to wipe some dirt off her forehead. Lara leaned over too, and her lips met Florence's. When they pulled away, Lara's heart was racing, sending sparks throughout her entire body. This felt right, it was like putting a puzzle together and putting the piece in the wrong place over and over again and when you find the connecting piece, you couldn't believe you hadn't thought of it sooner.
They remained speechless for awhile, until Florence leaned in again, not pulling away.
