Whenever Florence wasn't with Lara, she was hanging onto a bottle, drinking to her heart's content. No matter how many times, Lara had tried to convince that drinking wouldn't help anything, Florence would still come to Lara's house in the late night hours, on the verge of puking, just so Lara could hold her hair for her, while Florence emptied her stomach's content. She hated it more than anything, but she couldn't leave Florence, not now, not ever.
Lara woke up to the sound of crying. She opened her eyes to see her mother holding Florence in her arms. Lara looked at her clock, it was 5 in the morning. She got out of bed and hugged Florence.
" What's the matter? Are you okay?" Lara looked at her mom and motioned for her to eave. Once her mother had left, they sat down at the bed. Lara rocked her back and forth letting the tears fall onto her hair.
" My mom kicked me out of the house. I told her that I was bi, that we were together." Florence managed to say in between sobs.
" I'm so sorry. You can stay here as long as you want." Florence started to shake, Lara helped her into the bed and tucked her in. Florence continued to cry, until all the tears had run out, and then she fell asleep. Lara sat down on the bed for a few minutes, listen to Florence's deep breaths, until she had fallen asleep curled up around Florence.
The next morning Florence said that she needed to think, needed to be alone. She had a cousin in the country. She would be back as soon as she figured things out. Lara didn't argue, but it still hurt to see her go.
After Florence had been gone for 2 weeks without calling, Lara started to worry. She knew Florence wanted to be alone but she couldn't help but worry about her.
One night when her parents were out, Lara opened to see Florence with all of her blond hair shaven off, her clothes stinking of booze and her shakings violently. Lara held her fair, while Florence barfed into the toilet. Once Florence was done, they sat down on the couch, waiting for Florence's explaination.
" I drank way too much, I passed out and when I woke up, my head was shaved. I'm sory, I should have come stayed with you. I know that I promised that I would never drink again, and I really tried but my mom pushed me over the edge, and I don't think I can ever get back up."
No matter what Lara did to help Florence, nothing worked. She tried alcoholics anonymous, and Lara took away her fake id but whenever Lara left florence alone, she always ended up with a drink in her hand.
One night after watching Florence's favorite movie, she turned to Lara and told her what Lara had been dreading.
" We need to break-up." When she said this, she didn't sad, nor did she seem happy. It was just a fact, that no one had said until then.
" We can get through this together. You can't push me away when things get tough. That's not how life works. I love you, I'm not leaving you."
" I love you too, and that's why I'm pushing you away. You're the best thing that has ever happened to you, and I don't want you to get hurt."
" Don't I get a say." Lara said through tears.
" No, I know you think that you destroy everything you touch but that's not true. It's me that destroys everything , one day I'm going to blow up, and I don't want you to be there when it happens. Someday, when everything is okay, I'll come back, but that day isn't day." Lara didn't say anything as Florence got up and walked out of the door without another word.
