The Novel on the Shelf

You are my silver lining

The light in the darkness

My lifeline

But you don't see that

You're seeing a different story

You see the review left by others

Just like the ones on the back of my favourite novels

Upon reading these remarks, you chose to ignore me

You never tried to understand me or figure me out

You never tried to see if what was written in it was true

You just read those reviews and accepted them on blind faith

If you had given me a chance

You'd see that these written words were just assumptions

There's more to me than these labels

These reviews were written by readers who couldn't comprehend my essence

I was a book that required an ardent reader

One who could interpret what I was trying to say

One who could read between the lines

One who could truly comprehend my essence

A reader who reads for themself, not for the reviews

All you had to do was give me a chance

I hope that day will come soon

I hope that you'll see what I saw all along before it's too late

Until then, I'll remain a novel on the shelf.
