Ashley's POV

Three days ago my sister died. Two days after her seventeenth birthday. One day since the funeral. I know I always used to tease her but now something is missing.

Dad cried.

I have never seen him cry. Tear up yes. At my sweet sixteen. At Andy's first day of kindergarten. All the times he dropped Minnie's oxygen tank on his foot.

He was really strong until he had to speak at the funeral. He went up to give the eulogy and just broke down. It took Uncle Michael and Uncle Calum to get him down. Mom, who had already been crying, f*cking lost it. Andy was sad, but the reality of it hasn't hit him yet.

I went home from the funeral and cried into a pillow for approximately five hours. I probably would have gone for longer, but Mom came in.

"Hey, baby," she whispered.

"How did you do it?" I asked her, drying my eyes with the blanket on my bed.

"Do what?" She asked, and I saw the dark circles under her eyes.

"Loose your older sister, you said her name was Stella. Ed was gonna marry her right?"

Mom sniffed. "I didn't ever get over it, I'm still not over it," she twisted the ring on her finger. Smiling sadly, she said, "It's always gonna hurt, you just learn to deal with the pain,"

I started crying again, silent tears. "I don't want to deal, I want my sister," I whispered.

The two of us sat crying together. When Destiny acted like a friend rather than a Mom was when we got along best.

After a few minutes Dad poked his head in the door. "Des? You in here?"

Wiping away tears she made a noise to let him know she was.

He opened the door a bit further, "Hey, Ashes." I smiled at him using my old nickname. "Don't cry, either of you. You know she wouldn't want that. And Ashley, can I steal Mom for a minute?"

I nodded, Mom got up and gave my shoulder a squeeze before joining Dad in the hallway. I wasn't really paying attention to what they were saying. I tried distracting myself with Twitter.

Then Dad stopped whispering, "Destiny, love, please don't let this effect you. Ashley and Andy need you right now. I need you. And Minnie, she'd want you here with us. Please, Michael and me are both here for you."

Mom replied but she was too quiet. Dad breathed a sigh of relief. Mom mentioned something about making dinner. I heard her footsteps down the stairs and then Dad crying quietly.

This is the second time in three days he's cried. I can't take it anymore. I open the door and see him sitting on the ground, head in hands.

I crawl over to him, "Hi Ashes," he says, pulling me into a hug.

I try for the lame ass joke he loves, "Is it hi or hey?" He laughs. Mom says its the same eight year old giggle she fell in love with.

Maybe we'll be okay.
