Paul sat in his office resting his head on his hand as he clicked into an article he was editing. He yawned. He had been staring at his computer since 7am and it was now half past 12. Paul needed a coffee and some food. He stood, grabbed his jacket off the back of his chair and walked towards the door.
"Bill, I'm going to Starbucks. Would you like anything?" Paul asked as he passed Bill's desk,
"No thank you, Paul. I can't have coffee anymore. Makes me feel sick."
Paul nodded and walked out the door. He road the elevator down the 8 floors and turned left out the building to head to Starbucks. It was a nice day in Hatchetfeild, not too warm, not too cold.
Paul passed the local homeless man and gave him a couple of coins he had in his pocket. The man smiled at him. Paul kept walking.
As he approached Starbucks he saw the line was out of the door. He sighed, he couldn't be bothered to wait in a line like that. Paul looked up the street. He thought to himself that Starbucks couldn't be the only coffee place on the street. He just always new it was the closest to CCRP. Paul walked an extra block and saw a blue neon sign hanging in a window. It read 'Beanie's'. Paul looked in and saw there was only a few people in line then walked in.
As Paul walked in there was a chime about the door that alerted the staff someone had walked in. Paul stood in line and looked around the coffee shop. It was cute. Very small. It had a couple tables and chairs and a few small couches that looked like they were found in a thrift shop somewhere. He moved up in line. He saw behind the counter there was a short girl with brown hair. She looked very calm as she moved around behind the counter making coffee. She handed the coffee to the customer, Paul was next.
"Next, can I help you?" She asked with a sigh.
"Uh," Paul stuttered, "Just a black coffee please."
"No sugar or milk?" She asked, kinda confused.
"Nope. Just a black coffee, please." He smiled at her.
She looked at him up and down and started to make the coffee.
"I like you. Your order is simple." She told him, Paul laughed a bit.
"Usually people think I'm weird." Paul replied.
She laughed a bit and placed the coffee on the counter.
"That'll be 3.10." Paul handed her the cash then smiled. "Have a good afternoon." She said as she wipped down the counter.
"Thanks-" Paul walked out of the coffee shop and looked back in the window as he walked past it. He took a sip of his coffee. It wasn't that good, but he could get used to it.
