How We Pay

Chapter Five

I woke up to Kate sitting on the corner of my bed, eating a bowl of cereal and staring at me. I jumped, sitting up frantically.

"Holy shit, you scared me!" I held my hand to my chest, feeling my heart pounding from the scare. She just raised a brow at me.

"Sorry, you left you door unlocked so I just came in to wake you up." He mouth was full of food and she was in kermit the frog PJs.

"Do you check my door everyday?" I asked her quizzically.

"Yeah." She shrugged. I shook my head and scoffed at her. I reached over and took the bowl from her.

"Hey!" She pouted. I took a big bite and  this time I shrugged back at her. I stood and walked out to the kitchen, Kate hot on my heels. I was laughing, keeping her cereal from her, when I saw Zack and Matt sitting on the couch.

"Oh, hey." I said, stopping. Kate took the bowl back and sat next to Matt. I stood there, just staring at them.

"The guys wanna take us out today." Kate said casually, Matt's arm throw around her already. Zack looked over at me after she said that. He raised his brows at me, waiting for me to object.

"Where?" I asked.

"Brunch." Zack said, still waiting for my rejection of the idea. It didn't come. I liked Kate and Matt. I had to leave soon so another outing wouldn't kill me. 

Normal people do normal things with their normal friends.

"Okay." I gave a noncommittal shrug. I went and made myself a bowl of cereal too and sunk back into the couch inbetween Matt and Zack.

"Interesting." Zack whispered. Kate and Matt were talking quietly to each other about something so I looked over to him, brow raised.

"Interesting?" I asked.

"Yeah, Heidi just going with the flow. It's nice to see." He looked over to me and gave me a wink. I rolled my eyes and hit his shoulder. He chuckled and got up.

"I'm gonna shower." He went back and closed the bathroom door. I chewed my cereal and felt eyes on me. I turned and looked at Kate and Matt.

"What?" I asked with a mouthful.

"Nothing." They said in unison. I rolled my eyes and went to my room to change.

"Whatever, weirdos." I yelled back, closing the door.

We got to the small restaurant and sat at a table out on the patio. Kate ordered us a pitcher of mimosas and I looked over the menu. Kate sat across from me next to Matt, Zack to my right. The cafe was cute and sat off the only main road through the town. I watched the small groups of people walking on the sidewalks and kids riding their bikes past us. It was a cute little town. I would definitely miss it.

I looked back over my menu and hadn't noticed the waitress bring us our drinks. Kate poured me one and set it in front of me. I took a sip, loving the taste. Mimosa's were the best invention ever.

"Wanna sleep with me?" I spit out my drink as Zack whispered it to me. Kate scooted back, taking a napkin to my mimosa that was now all over her.

"I'm sorry!" I went to help her pat her shirt down but she just shrugged me off.

"It's fine." She laughed and sat back down. I looked over to Zack and gave him wide eyes. He was laughing hysterically and so was Matt.

"What?" I asked, looking between them.

"It's a meal." Zack pointed at the menu. I looked where he pointed and saw a meal titled 'Sleep with Me' on the combos column. I covered my face with my hands and hit Zack across the chest.
