"You are a blessing I despised."

Rigmarole Of Patience

"You are everything I needed. And you are everything I destroyed."

• Prologue •

She had tried. She even looks outside but she eventually stares at Shuraim. Like she always did.

She has always found him intimidating. The sharp eyes had a numbness to it, a wall so hard she could barely encompass behind these hard glances. He had never looked at her. She? She had tried not to. At least she tried to. Tried everything to stop herself from looking at his stubble face, smile so rich. These elite feasts felt like a way to bridge the way. He felt like a celebrity. Of course he was the talk of the town every now and then. He was the guy everyone hated but smiled at when he looked.

“You like him?”

Jannat gasps as soon as she notices who asked it. Dr. Shumayla. A well known neurologist of Bangalore. A beige floral hijab tightly wrapped around her brown under cap, her seamlessly black kaftan abaya seemed too flowy to go unnoticed. Her gold rings and vintage watch being the only accessories excluding the black cat eyed-frame. The doctor’s smile was comforting but she could see the smirk.

There was only one reason she wanted to come to this gathering. That was to get a glance of his charming face.

“Nothing… nothing… like that, aunty.”

“I get it,” Shumayla chuckles. “When I look at you… You remind me of my old self. So cheerful… so bubbly… I hope… I really do that, nobody breaks that innocence.”

“Thank you, aunty.” She tapped Jannat’s head softly before excusing herself. Jannat called her, “Aunty?”

Dr. Shumayla turned around. “I don't like him.” She said without stuttering, feeling a sense of pride and greatness. She knew she was lying. Something she is terrible at but she tried to. “Okay.” She says, but Jannat knew that her smile wasn't a smirk rather  it was a smirk and it said she didn't believe it. Jannat's stomach flipped on imagining rumours going out. What if somebody heard it? She didn't want to be on the bad side of her crush.

Shuraim Baig.

“Don't worry. It won't be informed to him.”

Jannat, sighing in relief, gave a lot of answers to Dr. Shumayla’s unwavering support. She was the best neurologist who was also working for Shuraim’s grandfather, Jabbar Baig, who happened to be bedridden, his body completely paralyzed. Jannat definitely didn't want this big piece of information to flick around.

“You are close to him.”

“I am just his grandfather's doctor.” She smiles. “Nothing more.”

As soon as Dr. Shumayla left. Jannat tried not to look at him but she had to fail. That was how whipped she was. This time, she was surprised. Because for the first time in her life, between these chaotic parties, weddings and feast, beyond all the people. Shuraim noticed her.

And she inhaled a lot of the moment and her mind revolved towards the first entry in her diary. A filmy bollywood song in the background. Her brain screamed it was cringe. But her heart was consoling her.
