Blackness hit Jack's mind, reminding him that everything that he feared and prepared himself for was going to happen today.
He and Elsa had just lost their child, and just a few seconds ago, Jack came down to the most difficult and most heartbreaking decision he has ever made in his 300 years of living as an immortal. He would have never imagined changing his mind because up until today, he was so sure that he was going to follow the Moon's plan, to turn Elsa into an immortal.
But no.
Jack is fully aware of what will happen if Elsa stays as a mortal human; she will continue to age and she will eventually pass away. And as much as it tortures and agonizes Jack, he knew that keeping her the way she currently is, is the best thing to do for the both of them.
Jack continued to look at Elsa, knowing that their time left was now more valuable than ever. In fact, neither of them knew how much time they had, if they even had any left at all.
As fear raced through his frosty veins, he reached over and held her hand for a few seconds. He couldn't waste anymore time. He needed to get that vial. He needed to destroy it before his urges cause him to change his mind again, tempting him to give in to his guilt. The desire to have Elsa as an immortal was so strong, too strong in fact.
But Jack told himself over and over that this was for the very best, that it would spare her from the burdens that belonged in his world, something that he did not want to expose Elsa to.
He had to remind himself that even though he will eventually lose her, Elsa will not have to suffer the heartbreak of losing the ones around her, especially Anna and Kristoff. And though it burns his mind to the very core, Jack would rather suffer through the grief of losing the girl he loves, rather than watch Elsa suffer the grief of losing her sister.
"Wait right here," he whispered hoarsely. How it killed him to leave her here, alone, grieving and mourning their dead child, but he had to. Every second that passed was crucial.
Elsa eyes widened in fear as her grasp on Jack's hand tightened. "Where are you going?"
Jack opened his mouth to speak, but closed it right away. He couldn't tell her. As much as it killed him, he wasn't allowed to tell her, or anyone, about the vial, about the Moon's plan. He couldn't tell her that he wants to destroy a vial that held the key to her life and death. The pain and fear he felt towards the vial and the Man in the Moon's plan, was now mixed in with the grief over his dead child.
He didn't answer her but instead he said, "I'll bring Anna and Kristoff in here."
"No, Jack, stay here. Please," Elsa cried silently. She was afraid of letting him go.
"I'll be back, I promise," he whispered.
He leaned down and pressed his cold lips upon Elsa's forehead, unable to look at her; one glance at her would send him to his own personal hell. How he hated himself right now. He felt like a monster for leaving her, especially when they had just lost their baby. But he has to, he has to do this, he has to demolish the vial, that despite everything he will have to go through, it was for his and Elsa's sake.
He stepped away from her and opened the door to the hospital wing, letting Anna and Kristoff in. Anna was in hysterics as she ran up to her sister. Kristoff looked down at Jack, sorrow swimming in his eyes; Anna and the doctor had explained everything to him.
"Take care of her," said Jack.
Kristoff closed his eyes and nodded his head before joining the two sisters.
The moment Jack closed the hospital door behind him, he instantly zipped through the corridors, flying in a speed almost incomparable to lightning, ignoring any of the castle's servants or maids who tried to call his name, asking about the Queen's condition.
