I sat there, crying all throughout the night until my tears were replaced with numbness. I glanced over at the clock and it read 5:45AM.
Knowing that I didn't have time to go back to sleep, I decided to take a nice hot shower. I got up and walked over to the bathroom. I turned on the water and got undressed as it started to warm up. Looking at myself in the full body mirror, I almost screamed at my appearance. I was pale, really pale, I was so pale that my skin was almost translucent. My body wasn't my normal, strong, curvy body. Instead, I was underweight as if I hadn't eaten in months. My eyes looked like they had sunken into my head and had dark circles around them, my cheeks looked like they had sunken in as well. My lips, that once had a natural color, now were a sickening green color.
'Maybe, it's from not getting any sleep.' I thought to myself, knowing that it was a lie. You don't become anorexic and weak overnight from not getting any sleep. I knew something was wrong, but what?
I shook my head and pulled my eyes away from my reflection and stepped into the shower. I looked up, letting the water splash my face in hopes of washing away my exhaustion.
Once I finished showering, I got dressed putting on a grey crop top and dark blue jeans. I shook any leftover water of my feathers as I put my hair into a ponytail, then I started my way over to the infirmary.
As I got to the infirmary, I walked straight to Dr. Brand's office to get Crystal.
"Good morning X. Did you sleep wel-" she stopped, her eyes wide as she took in my appearance.
"Oh my goodness! What happened to you?" She walked over to me checked my temperature.
"I'm here to pick up Crystal." I said ignoring her.
"X, you are sick I can tell. Sit, let me take a look at you." She said pulling out supplies.
"I'll come back later. But right now, I want to get Crystal back to our room." I walked over to Crystal. She stared at me for a long time before nodding her head.
"Good, she's all healed." I said looking at her face.
"See? I told you that she'd be fine. All of the mutations here heal faster than us humans so that scratch, was nothing than a mere paper cut for her." She smiled.
I nodded and I picked up a still sleeping Crystal. "Thank you Dr. Brand." I said leaving her office.
When I got to my cell, I gently placed her on her bed and plopped down onto mine, staring at the ceiling.
Right as I was about to dose off, I remembered that we had a physical for P.E today. With a groan, I got up and left the cell.
Walking into the gym, my ears were eroded by the sounds of all of the people around me, chatting amongst themselves. I went to the locker room to change.
"Wow, you look like complete shit!" Kat exclaimed.
I winced. "Well hello to you too." I mumbled.
"Oh, so she does speak. No but seriously, what happened to you?" She said, face full of concern.
"I don't know. But I'm fine okay?" I walked past her and exited the locker room.
"Alright, today we have our physical. But before we begin, we need to warm up. Everyone with wings, fly laps, and everyone else, run around the track." The teachers voice boomed throughout the gym.
I unfurled my wings, which now hung heavily on my back and slowly, but surely flew towards the ceiling.
I flew at a slow pace, my wings already getting tired.
