You wake up in a white room. Your vision was blurry and you couldn't tell where you were. You feel numb all over but try to move, starting with your finger. You can feel something on it. You gather up all the strength you have to turn your head to see what was keeping you from moving. You were shocked to see a boy with elf ears and dark purple hair holding your hand and leaning on your bed asleep. That's when everything started to get clear. You were in a hospital bed connected to a CPAP machine. You think back to what happened to get you here but nothing comes to your mind. The only thing you could remember was your name, birthday, and general information about you. You try to move your hand, uncomfortable with this random guy holding it. That's when he twitches and looks up at you with sleepy eyes. When he sees you looking at him, he sits up quickly, startled.
"Y/N?!" he says shocked, but quickly a huge smile appears on his face. He seemed genuinely happy and you couldn't figure out why. Tears were actually forming in his eyes. Who is this guy?
"Oh wait, I need to call the doctors," he runs out the door. You try to process everything that just happened.
"Weird elf, holding my hand, I can't remember anything, and I'm in a hospital." you think to yourself. Before you knew it, the man was back with doctors and a girl with periwinkle long hair and a blonde tall guy. They were also smiling but not as much as the first guy.
After a bunch of explaining, it seems you were in a coma for a week and are now suffering from mild amnesia. You were on a mission and the villain got a good hit on you, knocking you out. The doctors asked you what you knew and the more you'd talk, the more you seemed to remember. You were a pro-hero, and you lived in a condo near a forest that you loved talking walks in. You were a U.A grad, and your best friend was Nejire Hado (the periwinkle girl) and you worked at Mirio's (the blonde guy) Hero Agency. With each thing you remembered, the purple guy looked more and more disappointed. The doctors decide that within a week you'd be back in no time.
A week passes by and you're back to normal. The elf guy comes every day to check up on you, and to be perfectly honest you didn't know why. While you talk to Mirio and Nejire, he'd stand in the corner looking at you depressed. You didn't have the courage to confront him, but it was getting uncomfortable.
Today was the same, but when Nejire and Mirio left, he stayed. You sit in your bed quietly. He stares at you and you'd have enough. You open your mouth to say something but he beats you to it.
"Um, Y/N, do you honestly not...remember me?" he asks in a quiet voice.
So he was someone close to you. It thought he was just a friend of Nejire and Mirio's but it seemed you were wrong. You slowly shake your head no and could see the pain in his eyes.
"Are, are you sure?" he asks, starting to get desperate.
"I don't even know your name dude," you mutter under your breath. He takes a shaky breath and looks up from the ground and into your eyes.
"I'm...i'm your fiance, Tamaki, Y/N" he says and you finally understand why he always seemed so sad. If you really were his fiance, no wonder he was depressed. But you don't remember anything with him, so you couldn't call yourself his fiancee.
"I'm really sorry but I don't know anything about you," you say, shifting around, uncomfortably. It seemed that what you said struck him.
"But, the walks we took in the forest behind the condo," he says, visibly getting desperate, "Our condo! We bought it together, I remember how happy you were, and, and-"
He stops when he sees your face. You looked terribly uncomfortable and somewhat annoyed. Tamaki wasn't one to push something if the other person didn't want it, but when it came to you he'd go against the whole world. He only wanted the best for you but how could he do that if you didn't want it. If you didn't want him. You were the one who taught him to speak on his feelings, that his feelings are as valid as anyone else. Now you didn't even know who he was. The confidence that you worked both worked on broke down
"I'm, i'm sorry," he mutters and looks back down so you don't notice the tears welling up in his eyes, "I'll leave now."
As he starts to leave, guilt builds up in you. You could've been a bit nicer, after all he did just lose his fiancee.
"Uh, Tamaki, was that your name?" You call out and he turns his head, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
"We can still be friends if you'd like," you propose and a weak smile appears on his face. Your memories might've changed but your kindness was still the same, Tamaki thinks to himself. He nods instead of replying, afraid that his voice would let him down, and quickly shuffles away.
It's been 6 months since that day. You moved on and found yourself a boyfriend and moved in with him. The first month living at the condo you shared with Tamaki was rough, since his awkward and non-sociable personality made it hard for you to communicate with him. You guys barely talked now, bumping into each other time to time.
Tamaki goes to the balcony and opens the sliding door. The brisk morning air was refreshing. He leans on the railing and looks out at the forest. He thinks back to that day you both went on a stroll in the forest and had a picnic by the creek. These memories were the only thing that kept him going. The tears started forming in his eyes again and this time he didn't hold back. He sits, still holding on to the railing and bawls. This was the worst kind of torture. You were here but weren't with him. Of course, he was glad you were safe but seeing you with another man broke him completely. The day you told him you were going to move out, he died. But you were so happy, he couldn't ruin the mood. But he brought this on himself.
"I'm sorry Y/N," he apologies through tears. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you against the villain. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Stop it, you should be grateful that she's alive and well. The doctors said she was lucky she survived," he tells himself and wipes his tears and grabs the watering can, and starts watering your plants. He's been doing so every day, holding out hope that you'll come back to him.
"Maybe someday, she'll remember about us both," he says to the plant, smiling.
