Certain things have just been blindly accepted in our society for ages. Let me start with a few of the Disney Princess stories we've heard since childhood.
"Beauty and the Beast", very nice story, the character of Belle being my favourite because she is the one who believed in loving one from the soul and not outwardly appearances. The entire story is based on how true love is loving a person for being a person they are from inside and "all that glitters is not gold" (our infamous Gaston). But this beautiful storyline went downhill at the end. THE STEREOTYPICAL CONCEPT OF A DISNEY PRINCESS WITH A PRINCE CHARMING SAGA 101. The moment the "Beast" turned into a "handsome prince by true love", it took a turn in events. This story is supposed to be ' love me for who I am and you make me a better person' but what's being ignored is the fact that "being a better person" DOES NOT mean the Beast was a worse person before. The entire concept of not loving one for their appearance ends right when he turns into a "handsome prince".
The Frog and the Princess. Same story. Same case. Gets a kiss, turns into a "handsome young prince". Then what's the point in creating a story, which basically screams out to love one for their nature but in the end completely forgets it's purpose and ends up making another saga of Handsome Prince and Beautiful Princess (a match made in heaven).
The ill teachings that we've been gluing our eyes to as kids have been teaching us wrong things all along, but who cares?
One of the biggest demands in typical men, "I Want MY Wife/Girlfriend to be as beautiful as a lotus, as graceful as a jasmine....." The demands never end.
All of these demands are strictly aimed at appearances. One biggest demands we all have faced worldwide is FAIRNESS.
We women are asked to be fairest of them all, as a matter of fact, the fairest gets the most attraction. Snow White, was always the name the magic mirror said when asked "who's the fairest of them all". It was a competition between the Evil Queen and her, as if fairness is the only key to all of the beauty in this world. Am I wrong? To be fair, to be better and to be way more 'beautiful' than Snow White, the evil queen poisoned her step daughter! This is the kind of society we are and have been living in.
Another one of the biggest demands faced today, BODY HAIR/PUBIC HAIR.
Guys really be walking down the street half naked with patches of thick growth on their chest, belly, underarm, heck even face, where sunlight doesn't dare enter,
And us women are supposed to be "purely clean and hygienic".
If men live an "unhygienic life" we're accustomed to it as well. And if being so is "hygienic to men because it's natural" then mark my words, "body hair on women is as gorgeous as it looks on men". We don't purposely use black magic to curse ourselves with body hair do we? And if we could, I bet we still would because, why not?Since I've spoken about how beauty is judged today, let me define beauty for you. Beauty is what you're born with, beauty is how you view yourself and not how others think of you. True, it does lie in the eyes of the beholder..but none will capture your true beauty but you. You don't need anything additional to be beautiful. Being beautiful is being you in your most comfortable zone.
One is never "ugly", their perspective is.
