Your bones ached. Your freezing legs dared to continue trudging through the iced mountains belonging to Dragonspine. Looking every which way for a source of warmth; in which none was ever found. No teleport waypoints,  no lit fires, unless a camp of hilichurls or treasure hoarders somehow decided to let you share the heat of a fire.

Neither could you find any wandering seelies begging to go back to their home. You were huffing and puffing, while trying to steady your breathing.

You were sort of okay with dying, but now that it was actually happening, you were downright terrified. You hadn't succeeded in your promise, either. You hadn't lived your life to the best of it. You still hadn't confessed your undying feelings for your coworker.

You didn't fulfill your last promise, either. Your promise to help Sucrose complete an experiment that required materials from Dragonspine.

Flashback

"Hmm, that's not right.." Sucrose murmured to herself. You just so happened to be standing next to her, as she studied her past calculations on what went wrong.

"What happened,  Sucrose?" you questioned the alchemist, leaning over her shoulder to also check her calculations. You wouldn't be of much help, although, since you were still an alchemist in training.

"O-Oh, it's just.. this experiment went wrong. I think I found out why. I need more star silver ore," Sucrose paused in between sentences, and put up her index finger when she came to a final conclusion.

"Star silver ore? Isn't that.. all the way into Dragonspine?" you questioned, your eyes widening as you though of Sucrose going into Dragonspine.

"Yeah.. I don't know what I'm going to do," Sucrose seemed to internally contemplate with herself, as you did the same. You were deciding on whether or not you should volunteer, take her place, help her out with the experiment, by retrieving the ore.

"Sucrose.. I'll go," you finally announced loudly, disturbing people passing by. Sucrose made a motion for you to lower your volume.

"N-No! You can't do that. I don't want you to get hurt!" Sucrose waved her hands in front of herself, signaling that she didn't agree. You sighed, and gave Sucrose a smile. It made your heart flutter knowing she cared about your safety.

"Sucrose, I'll be fine. I promise," you lifted your hand up to Sucrose's shoulder, trying your best to call her down and win her over. You knew you'd be okay.

Besides, you wanted to do everything in your power to help your fellow alchemist out. You wanted a good reputation in Mondstadt, as well, knowing you haven't always lived in this area. Sucrose wasn't tensed up anymore, and she looked away. You could see a faint blush on her cheeks, but you rubbed it off; dismissing it as nothing.

"Y-You promise?" Sucrose's voice wavered a bit, as she looked at you expectedly. You smiled your biggest smile, and gave her a thumbs up, winking in the process. She returned your smile.

End of Flashback:

Oh, how you longed to have never made that promise. You didn't want to back down from the promise, you couldn't.

As you were walking, a hilichurl camp caught a glimpse of you. One decided to through a cryo slime at you. It exploded around you, making you shiver even more. They were singing weird chants, and seemingly dancing as well.

Turning away from them, and trying to get them to lose sight of you, you ran as fast as you could away. And, of course, you tripped on a chest. "Aaaaah!" you yelled as you plummeted to the snowy ground.

Having no choice, you sat back up and opened the chest. It dropped useless, easy, breakable weapons. Sighing, you wobbled back up.

You were completely lost. You had zero idea on where you were. Your vision started to blur, and from what you could see, there was legit ice crystals forming on your bare legs. Your breathing was extremely unsteady. Your throat burned and ached, making it hurt every time you inhaled.

Legs wobbling across the snowy ground, they finally gave way. You fell harshly to the ice cold ground. You had met your limit in the snow. If only you have brought a map, where it marked places on where you could find the ore.

Negative thoughts filled your brain. You had been a failure. You let down the only person you had ever loved. You made a promise you couldn't keep.. The only promise you hadn't kept.

Your eyelids tried to shut, but you tried your best to hold them open. "No.. not now.." you mumbled to no one in particular, "I.. I have to.. I need to.. fulfill my.. promise.."

And with that, your eyelids fluttered closed. Your body froze, and you gone limp. Your heart rate dropped dramatically, before stopping. You had frozen to death, and no one knew. You were just lost in the snow.

"Has Y/n come back?!" Sucrose hurriedly asked Albedo, completely dropping all of her manners and formality. Albedo raised his head to look at the girl. He shook his head no. Tears welled into the crooks of Sucroses' eyes, daring to fall.

"I haven't see them since last week. I am terribly sorry for not being of help, Sucrose," Albedo calmly informed.

"It has been a whole week! Do you think they.." Sucrose trailed off, as her eyes widened, hoping what she thought couldn't be true. Albedo sighed.

"I'm not sure."
