Chloe's POV
"Hey Mom, I'm going to have a friend if mine come over today ok?" I ask my mom over the phone.
"A friend? I like the sound of that," my mom says excitedly. "Is there a reason?"
"School project."
"No prison record right?"
"Nope"
"Ever been in detention?"
"Mom, everyone has."
"Not you."
"I'm too innocent."
"Sure."
"I am!"
"Name?"
"Brooklyn."
"Gender?"
"...male?"
"Then he can't come."
"Oh come on!" I protest. "His dad is David Beckham!"
"Then in that case...he can come over. Only because I want to know if he is actually related to him." I could feel my mother smiling over the phone.
I hang up. I see Brooklyn standing at the front entrance talking to his friends. I throw my backpack over my back and walk over to him.
Brooklyn's POV
"Well good luck with the date." Matt smirks.
"A study date," I reply."Gosh."
"I think we all know you wish this was a date," Matt says with a grin while patting my head like I was a child.
"It's true," Lilly laughs. "Thats our cue to leave Matt." She points her chin at Chloe.
The pair leaves and I wait awkwardly for Chloe to come over.
"Hey," I say. "Can we make a quick stop at Starbucks? I'm really hungry."
"Yeah because a latte will fill you up great."
I laugh."For sure."
We stop at Starbucks, grab our drinks, take pictures with a few fans, and head towards her house. Her neighbourhood is really nice and peaceful, unlike mine, which is always flooded with my dad's fans--and recently mine, too. To be honest, I really don't understand why I'm famous, but people have told me because I look good. I shrug. Well I can't say I don't like that.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Chloe asks, breaking my thoughts.
"Oh nothing much," I reply. No need for her to know what I was thinking.
"Do you always randomly shrug?" she teased.
Oops, I didn't realize I shrugged."Yeah, I do, is there something wrong with that?"I joke.
She laughs, which is a really pleasant sound.
We stopped in front of a house with a newly-cut lawn and a mini-garden. There were all sorts of plants blooming, from roses to trees to tomatoes.
"Is this you house?" I ask.
"Yep. Try not to randomly shrug in front of my mom--she already hates the idea of boys in my house."
She knocks and to be honest, I was pretty scared when Chloe's mom opened the door. She smiles at me but something told me she was forcing it. It's wasn't like Chloe and I were dating or anything.
"Come in guys!" she says, still "smiling".
"Mom, this is Brooklyn from school. Brooklyn this is my mom." Chloe introduces us.
"Hi, nice to meet you Miss..."
"Moretz, but call me Jane." I could tell Chloe's mom was more open to me now, even though we had just met 30 seconds ago.
I shake her hand and Chloe leads me up to her room.
"Uh, where do you think you guys are going?" her mom calls from the bottom of the stairs.
Chloe rolls her eyes."My room, mom."
"I don't think so. You're studying in the living room and I don't want any funny business."
She rolls her eyes again and says,"Sorry, my mom's like that."
"It's okay," I chuckle. I head back down the stairs with her and plop down on the couch in her living room.
"Well, I'll be upstairs. You know where to to find me if you need me," her mom informs before heading up.
"I don't get the difference between being alone upstairs and downstairs," Chloe mutters before shaking her head.
I laugh. "So, what do you think of Callington so far?" I ask, changing that topic.
"Well, I love it so far. There are some pretty nice people out there...but Shania, it seems like she really hates me."
I almost spit out my imaginary water.
"Shania? The girl in our drama group?"
She nods in confirmation.
I laugh a bit."Don't let her get on your nerves. She's just jealous of you."
"Jealous? Of me?" Chloe points at herself.
"Yeah."
"Why would she ever be jealous of me?"
"Well, you've been here for a day, and people like you more than her already."
Chloe stares at her table, her eye wide in shock. How did she not see this coming. Country people.
"Anyways, enough about Shania, let's talk about the drama," I say, attempting to once again change the subject.
"What are we expected to do?" Chloe grabs a notebook to write things down.
"Well, according to the paper, we have to re-create a modern version of a play that involves a lot of expression," I read off of our criteria sheet.
Chloe taps her chin and thinks about it for a second.
"Why don't we do something Shakespeare?"
I nod at the idea.
"Lots of dying then." I comment. "Perfect!"
Wow I'm so not funny. Luckily for me though, Chloe laughs, showing off her dimples.
After about two hours of talking about drama, school, county, giraffes, and curtains, I got a text from my mom, telling me to go home.
I hop up from the couch. "I have to go now. My mom wants me home for dinner."
Chloe smiles and gets up to follow me to the door. Over the lays two hours, we had miraculously grown really close. Almost as close as Matt and I.
I slip on my Vans and unlock her door.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow, Yorkie?" Chloe jokes. I have this new nickname now, because she found out that Brooklyn was in New York. See what I mean about close?
"Bye," I say, smiling cheekily at her. I hesitated for a second before quickly running my lips across her right cheek. I turn around and leave before I can see her react.
Why the fudge cakes did I do that? I have no idea.
