something we can do (marina)

(This takes place about 1 year and a half after carina and Maya moved in)

"Maya I have to go back" those were the words that stayed with the blonde for days and days, her one true love was going back to Italy and there was nothing she could do... or at least that's what she thought.

It was a lazy Saturday morning and carina and Maya were laying on the couch curled up together enjoying the last days before carina had to go back to Italy... they tried to make the most put of their time since they weren't gonna see each other for at least a couple of months, but today they wanted to take a step back and enjoy some time together without doing anything special.

"I wish you didn't have to go back" Maya said interrupting the silence between the two

"Me too"

"Is there really nothing we can do?"

"well..." the brunette said but quickly interrupted herself "no it's nothing"

"Wait... there is something? Why aren't you telling me?"

"I'm telling you it's nothing"the brunette said

"Are you sure? The blonde said turning so she was facing her girlfriend and just as she did, she noticed the look on her face, it seemed like she had something on her mind, but wouldn't say it...

"Ok, there is something, but before I tell you what it is promise you won't freak out" the Italian said with a look of concerne on her face

"Ok now you're starting to scare me, but I promise I won't freak out"

"Ok" the brunette said as she took a deep breath "a couple of years ago my brother's girlfriend, sam, was getting deported and we couldn't do much about it, but Andrea thought of something... a way to make her stay, basically if you're married to an American citizen you have the right to a visa" carina said not even taking a breath

"But you're not- oh" Maya said not immediately realizing what her girlfriend meant "so you're saying that if we got married you could stay?"

"Technically yes" carina said looking at her girlfriend in the eyes

"Say something please" the brunette said as her girlfriend watched her without saying a word, when the blonde suddenly got up and left the room...

"Maya what are you doing? Did I freak you out?" Carina said, but Maya was not in the room anymore... she debated whether she had to follow her or not, but she decided it was better to give her girlfriend some space...

After a couple of minutes Maya reentered the room to find carina looking down at her hands sitting on the couch, just as she left her...

"Hey, before you say anything, no you did not freak me out..." the blonde said

"Oh" her girlfriend replied

"Come here" Maya said holding a hand out gesturing for her girlfriend to stand up, carina did as her girlfriend suggested and they were now looking in each other's eyes, none of the two saying anything, when suddenly Maya broke the silence...

"Ok, here it goes... I've been meaning to ask you something for a while now... pretty much everyone at the station knows because I wouldn't stop talking about it" Maya said letting out a giggle " but I guess there's not much time left, so I'm gonna say it now... I had a better plan for this, but I guess it will do" she said as she dropped on one knee and took a small box out of her pocket

"Carina De Luca, since that night at the bar you have been the best thing in my life, my person, my soulmate, and you made me a better person without even trying, even thinking about you makes me feel good, you make me feel" a this point the two were both tearing up and a few small sobs were escaping the brunette's lips "when I told you that I was all the way in, I meant it, and I still am... but I want to take us a step further and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, so Carina De Luca, will you marry me?"

"Oh my god YES YES YES" carina said as she kneeled in front of her girlfriend, put her hands on both sided of her face and kissed her, it was one of the best kisses the two had ever shared, sweet and full of love... after they pulled away Maya took the ring out of the small box and slid it in her girlfriend's finger, after that they shared a couple of kisses and then got back on the couch, Maya sitting in her girlfriend's arms...

"So.. how long have you been thinking about this?" Carina said

" It's been a while really, I remember talking about it with Andy the day after our one year anniversary" Maya said

"Whoa, that was like 5 months ago" carina said realizing her girlfriend had been thinking about this for a lot longer than she thought

"I know... Andy and I went ring shopping about a month ago though, remember when I told you Andy needed to buy something for her aunt's birthday?"

"Oh so that's where you were going"

"Yeah" Maya said and pressed a kiss on her fiancé's lips.

after some small talk and a couple of kisses and make out sessions the two decided to go out to take a walk

"Can we drop by at the station?" Maya asked

"Sure" carina replied

The two made their way to the station and walked in hand in hand to find everyone except travis and Andy in the beanery

"Hey cap" vic said

"Hey vic" Maya replied

Maya then leaned in her girlfriend's ear and whispered " should we tell them?" The brunette looked at her and nodded

"Ok everyone we have  some news we'd like to share"

"Oh do tell" vic said

Then carina showed her hand and Maya said "we are engaged!"

"Oh my god you finally did it?!" Vic said almost jumping to look at the Italian's hand

"Congratulations you two" ben said

At that point Andy and travis walked in and travis quickly spotted the ring on carina's finger "IS THAT AN ENGAGEMENT RING?!" He said

"Oh my god Maya did you propose?" And chimed in

"As a matter of fact, she did" carina said exchanging a loving look with her fiancé...

"CONGRATULATIONS!" The two firefighters said

After that they decided to have lunch at the station and everyone was going on and on about how Maya would spend every minute of her free time talking about how wonderful carina is and how she would talk about proposing all the time, the comments making both her and carina blush...

The two were finally walking home,

"I love you" Maya said

" I love you too... fiancé" carina replied looking at her fiancé in the eyes an leaning in for a soft kiss.

a/n: I'm sorry this is short but it's been a tough couple of days and I didn't really have time to update :/
