wildest dreams - duomo

"what is it you fear of?"

most of the guests had been received by the king's personal servant, the hall where adora's annual yule was taking place being almost entirely filled, cozy chattering and music arranged by soonyoung and jihoon only muffled from in the hallway. right after seungcheol had given a little speech to his guests, the task that was passed to him after the tragic death of his parents, he found that jeonghan had left the room, his presence being nowhere to be found.

however, it was as if seungcheol was able to feel where he had ran off to, finding jeonghan right around the corner of an abandoned hallway. "is it the mass of people? are you scared of the consequences of being seen with me? because i can guarantee you that no matter what-"

"- it would make you look filthy. you would be a disgrace to your own kingdom if you were to be seen dancing with a lowlife like me." jeonghan buried his face in the palms of his hands, preparing his face to be flooded with tears. "don't you understand it? i am a runway prince. if any of those royals in that hall would find out, it can cost both of us the head."

"jeonghan, please calm down." seungcheol grabbed a gentle hold of his wrists, forcing jeonghan to look back up at him. "there's no such thing as an execution going to take place in my kingdom, nor in that of anyone else's. i am my own king, and since everyone made their arrival in my kingdom they have to accept and respect my rules. besides.."

a smug grin appeared on the king his face as he readjusted the defined fabric of his pearly blue suit. ".. we have shared a dance before once, didn't we?"

"we were just kids back then, seungcheol. don't be so stupid." jeonghan tried to avert his gaze to anything else. however, he didn't succeed as seungcheol's dark, chestnut eyes had him enchanted.

"then why don't we forget about all our responsibilities for just a moment." seungcheol pulled jeonghan up from the ground, holding his right hand as well. "we are only physical adults. by heart, we are still the same as back then jeonghan. please let me take you to the dance floor once more."

jeonghan's eyes sparkled with something seungcheol had never seen before. a desperate need of safety, something that saddened seungcheol to see. however, it was also something he wished to fix, not wanting his love to suffer or to feel unsafe whenever they were together, neither alone nor in public.

"will you dance with me one more time?" seungcheol's voice merely came out as a hoarse whisper, guiding the love of his life step by step back to the ballroom, where his favorite song just started playing.

an orchestra of violins and the majestic sound of a grand piano almost covered up the gentle 'yes' jeonghan had muttered out while the king lead him to the middle of the room, blending in with the mass of dancing royalties.

the golden chandeliers lit up the atmosphere around them, throwing a golden hue over the crowd, making jeonghan's reddish hair shimmer. the light that fell down on him made him look like an actual angel, standing still and looking around, staring at the dancing royalties around him.

"look at me." seungcheol demanded in a tender voice, offering both his hands to jeonghan to show that he had no bad intentions in any way. he bowed for the runway prince, guiding his hands to his broad shoulders and placing his own hands on both jeonghan's hips. "there's no need to be so stiff. just let the music flow through you and keep looking into my eyes, i will lead you through the room."

jeonghan nodded, still insecure if he would do the right thing. however, once seungcheol started swaying his body on a rhythmical pace, jeonghan slowly started to understand the meaning of the moves. his feet went along naturally, being entirely guided by seungcheol.

it was as if the marble floor underneath their polished shoes disappeared, making it feel like they were dancing high up in the clouds, surrounded by millions and millions of little stars. all the responsibilities of ruling a kingdom fell off seungcheol's shoulders in that moment, being able to move his body freely on the music, having the man he loved inside his arms. it was as if they were kids all over again.

even jeonghan, the prince who had ran away from his kingdom, was able to leave his sorrows behind for a mere minute. no evil fathers that haunted him, carelessly taking away his freedom and with that his entire life. up until now, where the man he had been dreaming of for the past eleven years held him so dearly, he saw no more purpose in life.

it was in the middle of a crowded ballroom where his lips curled up in the most heart-warming smile, both his upper and lower row of canines exposed. as if to say without using verbal words, that he came home.

seungcheol was able to catch that glance right away, not breaking eye contact once. and when he returned an expression alike to jeonghan's, the prince threw his head back in laughter, making him look even more angelic than he already did. it was then when seungcheol could no longer restrain himself from not getting closer to the ethereal man in his arms.

thus, he was quick to make a move, ignoring the company all around him as they were still in their own little world, tightening the grip on jeonghan's waist and connecting their lips together in a desperate and long-awaited kiss.

though when both went in to deepen it, the grand entrance doors violently swung open, blowing out the light of a few nearby candles high up in the golden chandeliers. the sound of music immediately faded away, the cozy chattering in the room dying down along with it as well.

it was just like what both seungcheol and jeonghan had been afraid of; an unwanted visitor had made his appearance.
