Mini A/N: Just a disclaimer I will be using a school located where she is currently living but the academic buildings will be completely made up and not in any way in relation to the actual school.

Kayla's pov

The one thing I hate more than waking up from a good sleep is waking up from a good sleep knowing I have to go to school. I groaned in annoyance as I shut off the blaring alarm and sat up in bed trying to gather up all of my senses to prepare myself for today's "big" event.

I wasn't particularly happy about going to school, this was mostly because 1) it was my freshman year in college, in a whole new country. 2) My family had just moved halfway across the world for a business opportunity, so not only am I a foreigner but I am literally going to be a bicycle in a haystack....just there.... sticking out like a sore thumb, and 3) there's also the issue with me still mourning my dad's passing. So no I wasn't excited for college at the current moment, not one bit.

Once I reached about 50% of me being awake I quite literally crawled out of bed and made my way to my attached bathroom. I like to stay in my room so having a bathroom in there is just ideal. I washed my face and brushed my teeth which added about another 25% to my energy level.

It was still nice here in Manchester, England so I settled for a white short sleeve cropped shirt with a polo collar and some distressed light blue jeans that were more on the loose "boyfriend" style. I slipped on my white converse threw on some gold jewelry and proceeded to pack my bag.

I planned on using my iPad for school so I placed that and the apple pencil along with a few pens in my bag just in case I needed them, Throwing my wallet in I double-checked my bag once more to make sure I had everything I thought I would need on my first day. A picture of my schedule was saved on my phone so I didn't have to worry about that.

Walking downstairs I noticed that the house was extremely quiet meaning that my mom had already left for work.

Quick background story: My parents flip houses, their company became really successful and so they decided that making the business international would be a good way to expand. Hence us moving all the way across the Atlantic Ocean.

If you know anything about flipping houses then you know that those people are always on the move, looking into the property, investing in that property, and then they have to go shopping for the new renovations.

That's basically what my mom's specialty was. She's an interior designer so she handled that part of the job. My dad dealt with the whole construction part. He worked and dealt with the contractors.

But now my dad isn't here and so my mom is basically doing twice the work making sure that she's partnering up with the right contractors while trying to find profitable house investments and shopping around for the interior and exterior decor.

So because of that my mom basically went into a workaholic mode to keep herself busy after he died. Not only because of the double workload because I know she could afford to get an assistant but because I'm also pretty sure this is her version of coping? or maybe this is her way of keeping him close to her. I wasn't entirely sure.

Snapping out of that train thought I grabbed my keys from the hook and walked out to my car. It was my 18th birthday gift from my parents. Getting in I turned the car on and used the GPS to find the nearest Starbucks.

Sighing quietly to myself I started the GPS to the Starbucks and drove off. Keeping the radio on low I drove down the streets of Manchester it wasn't too crowded on the streets this morning, it was mostly due to the fact that rush hour had already passed and everyone should've already been at work or school.
