Chapter 9
If you are a Muslim and it is prayer time right now, STOP READINGS AND GO PRAY.
****Layla was having a great week. Her family was happy, she was happy, she was having great days with her friend. Everything was going great and she couldn't be more thankful.
Today Layla had a shopping day planned. She was going with her friend Khadijah. She was not a big shopper. She honestly just wanted to spend a day with her friend.
The winds whispered and giggled as they noticed the "two" would be at the same place at the same time. Yet they forgot no matter how much we think people would end up together we can never know the future. Only Allah knows.
Layla left home kissing her mother and sister goodbye. Her sister-in-law had so quickly become as close as a sister. They had grown so close to the extent that when Ibrahim was delayed or was not coming home that day, Rahma would go to sleep in Layla's room. When Ibrahim would arrive, he would pick Rahma up from his sisters room to go back to theirs.
Layla was supposed to pick Khadijah up from her house. She drove at her usual speed 140 kilometers per hour. She was just enjoying the wind against her face and the thrill of driving fast. The little things in life matter the most and yet, we take them for granted. Only when they are no more present do we remember or even think about them. Layla picked her friend Khadijah up. And they headed towards the mall while listening to Muhammad al Muqit.
After taking her milkshake from the cashier Layla was putting her change in her purse and without looking she started walking forward. She suddenly bumped into someone. If it weren't for the persons quick surgeon reflexes the milkshake would have been all over the floor.
Layla looked up with a very astonished look. She was surprised at the persons supper fast reflexes. She looked to see none other than her doctor Marwan Holding her drink. She was surprised to see he was not angry and if he was, he was doing a great job at hiding it.
"Ah Layla, Assalamualaykumu. (May peace be upon you.) Nice to see you have recovered well. You should really be more careful." He said handing her drink back to her.
She took it hastily wanting to get away from there. This was not the first time she had embarrassed herself in front of him.
"Walaykummusalam Doctor. Nice to see you." She said shyly. Even a wild squirrel would be more bold than her. She was extremely shy. She noticed how he was not looking at her at all instead he was looking at the floor. She had never seen a non mehram man this respectful in her entire life."Layla you skipped your check up appointment. Why? Does your family know." He asked sternly after a few seconds of silence.
Layla immediately got scared. She did not want her family to know she skipped her appointment. She was scared of the hospital for reasons unknown to all. She hid somethings so well nobody would guess.
"Uhh... I...I... C..can you not tell anyone that I skipped my appointment. Please." She begged
He sensed the fear as she spoke. He looked up at her to see she had tears in her eyes. He had no idea what to do. All he could think was what is wrong with her.
"I have not told anyone yet Layla." He spoke with so much authority it scared her. Upon hearing the yet she panicked.
"Only on one condition will I not tell them." Marwan finished."Anything, anything at all." Layla said desperately.
"You have to come tomorrow to the hospital for your check up. Or else I will have no choice but to tell your family." Marwan said. He knew he had to get her to the hospital. Bad things can happen if something went wrong and they had not detected it soon. He was not sure why she was so scared. All he knew was he had to do that check up.
"Uhh... I can't. Please don't force me to do something I don't like. Please Doctor." She almost cried.
"Layla if you are scared I'll wait for you at the entrance of the hospital."
Marwan said. Knowing very well that she was scared."Okay. InshaAllah. But please don't tell my family." She pleaded with him. She knew there was no convincing him. He would eventually force her to go. So she gave up and decided to go.
"I will not. Tomorrow you better be at the hospital at eight thirty am." He said leaving no room for argument.
She wanted to tell him she had class at that time but he walked away. What just happened? She thought. She went and sat at her table where Khadijah was giving her those teasing looks.
"I have never in my 23 years of life seen my best friend of 21 years talk to a man other than family for that long." Khadijah said with a teasing smile.
"He is my doctor Khadijah." She said a little angry that he threatened to tell her family that she never went for her appointment if she did not go tomorrow.
"Oh why so worked up love? Doctor is sooo gooood. I think u should marry him. Isn't he your sisters brother? How cool would that be?" Khadijah said excitement oozing out from her tone. But again someone made the same mistake as the wind.
