I spend the next hour frantically searching for a new place to hide my notebook.
In the closet is too obvious. Under the bed it can be seen, if Maddie really did just happen to see it. Behind my dresser I won't be able to reach it.
I settle for putting it between two notebooks in my old school supplies pile.
When I finally calm down, I turn on my TV and and munch on cereal.
Bling bling goes my phone.
"Haven't heard from you. I miss you" says Tyler's text.
"It's only been a day. I've just been busy, sorry."
To be honest, I really don't want to see him or talk to him.
"What were you doing today?"
"Cleaning up still. Then napping." Lies.
"How long will napping take?"
"Until tomorrow hopefully."
I know I'm going to have to see him eventually, but I don't want to while I'm so upset and tired.
"Why? What happened?"
"Nothing. I'm just really tired." More lies.
"You're still not sleeping?"
"Sort of." Talking about this reminds me all too much of my dream from last night. I send another text "I don't wanna talk about it."
"Want me over there?"
No. Yes. I don't know.
"I don't care"
~*~*~*~*~*~
I hear tapping on my window. Immediately, I get up and let Tyler in.
He's not gone; Kayla didn't take him from me. I relax into his arms.
Tyler mumbles something into my hair. I barely catch it.
Tyler: Are you okay?
Me: Mhm.I look up, wanting him to kiss me. He presses his lips briefly to my forehead then lies with me on my bed.
It's a little while later, when Tyler looks in my direction, and sees something that catches his eye.
Tyler: What's that?
He leans to the right, pushing me in the process, and grabs a folded piece of paper. The restraining order.
Tyler: It finally went through?
Me: Oh. Yeah.
Tyler: Did this just happen?
Me: I think it came two days ago but nobody showed it to me until today.I'm such a bad liar.
Tyler: You don't seem so excited about it.
Me: I'm just relieved. It's all over.
Tyler: And now...He starts running his fingers along the inside of my forearm.
Tyler: You can calm down and forget about it.
His fingers go to my palm, then interlace with mine.
"No chance in hell I'll calm down," I think.
I put my head on his shoulder, breathing in the scent of him. Something about it is calming, comforting, something I associate with safety.
He whispers to me again.
Tyler: Is there anything else I should know about?
There's a whole montage of things he should know about:
-how scared I am to lose him
-how my fear of Kayla will never go away
-my dreams
-my lack of sleep
-how I cried all night
...and like fifty million other things.
