Chapter 8

Pov Hermione

    After potions, Luna and I had walked down the the great hall. We flirted, subtly, and I messed with her about using the love potion on her. To anyone else it just seemed like we were laughing over a random joke but we both knew otherwise. After lunch, we went to the lake and sat by it. Her head was rested on my shoulder and I was playing with her soft hair. It was nearing the end of September and so things were starting to get cold. When a breeze rolled through, Luna shivered. I pulled her into my cloak and she sighed at the warmth. I smiled and we stayed like that for a little while. It was nice to just sit and exist in each others arms.

"Hermione?" I looked down at the blonde and her big blue eyes were looking up at me. I smiled.

"Yes?" She beamed and relaxed her head on me again.

"Nothing, I just wanted to hear your voice." I smiled as she said it. She's so cute. Soon enough, it had started getting dark and we went inside. As we were walking, some Slytherins turned the corner. One looked at our hands, which were linked.

"Hey look, they're girlfriends!" They all burst out laughing. I just rolled my eyes.

"C'mon kiss!" One of the other boys said and his friends burst out laughing. We tried to walk past them but they stood in our way. One crossed his arms. "Now, where do you think your going?"

"Back to Gryffindor tower." I said. Luna's grip on my hand tightened.

"You just need a man in your life." One said to Luna. I gulped. He slid his arm around her waist. I went to stop him but then someone said duck and I pulled Luna down. The boy was shot with a stunning spell. I looked back and saw Harry and Ginny standing there. The other two Slytherin boys pulled out their wands. Ginny and Harry both performed the disarming spell on either one and their wands flew to the floor. Then they too were stunned to the floor. Ginny came over to us and helped us up.

"You guys weren't at dinner and Neville said he saw you heading this way. Thats how we figured out you were here." Harry said and then looked down at our intertwined fingers. I dropped Luna's hand and looked up at Harry. He grinned and I just glanced off.

"C'mon lets head to the tower. These guys will be up in a few and won't be too happy with us." Ginny said and we all started walking to the tower. Ginny and Luna walked ahead of us and talked. I got Harry to fall behind.

"I dont know what you think but whatever it is, please keep it to yourself." I begged him and he smiled.

"I promise, 'mione. Though, nice job on getting the girl." He said then caught up with Ginny and Luna, leaving me stunned behind them. We got to the common room and people stared at Luna and I. I looked around and Ron was smirking at me, holding a photo of Luna and I cuddled up next to the lake. My eyes widened and I looked to Luna, who was also wide eyed. 

"Oh look, they are so cute together." Harry glared at Ron as he said this. I was on the verge of tears.

"Yeah, and?" I said, putting a hand on my hip. "What do you care? Why do any of you care? It's none of your business anyways."

"It's weird. Luna, do you see how Hermione looks at me? She tears up whenever she sees me, she is using you as a rebound. Your nothing more than that." I looked down and shook my head when he said that. 

"No you aren't, Luna. I truly like-" 

"No she doesn't! She will leave you the second things get hard. She'll never love you the way she loves me. Hermione and I are meant to happen, not you and her. You'll never last." I watched as a tear rolled down Luna's face. She wiped it away and turned away to leave.

"Luna! Luna, wait!" I called as she walked down the hall. She turned to me and hugged me, crying into my shirt. I rubbed her back as she wept in my arms. "It isn't true. You aren't just a rebound. I truly care about you so much." She nodded. 

"I think I'm going to stay in Ravenclaw tonight. I just don't want to face him again." I nodded. We said our goodnights and went our separate ways. I went back to Gryffindor and pulled out my History of Magic book. The essay was due tomorrow. I'd written about half of it but still needed to get some done. I sat on the couch, doing my essay. Harry was doing the same and Ginny was on the floor, also doing the essay. 

"Could you look over my essay when I'm done?" Harry asked. I watched Ron leave through the portrait hole. 

"Yeah sure. Just give it to me when your done." I said and finished up writing my essay. I pulled out my Potions book and started studying for a little bit, until Harry was done. Once he was, he gave it to me and I read it over. I pointed out his mistakes and he fixed them. When we were done with homework, it was late and we were the last ones left in the common room. We went up to bed. I fell asleep the second my head hit the pillow.

Pov Luna

    I was walking around just thinking about random things. It was getting late so I had to be careful or I'd be caught by a teacher or a prefect. I was walking down a corridor and heard footsteps. I hid behind a statue and performed a cloaking charm just to be safe. If it was a teacher, they'd find me even with the charm. If it was a prefect, the outcome was questionable. I heard the footsteps getting closer and made sure my breathing wasn't too loud. That's when I watched Ron stalking by, wand out. I held my breath as he passed. When I could no longer hear his steps, I ran to Ravenclaw and went to bed. My heart had been racing. He could have easily killed me or something. Soon enough, I fell asleep.
