Y/N's POV
"YOU know I always figured Slytherins would be exempt from the guard duty role, since you're the ones we're supposed to be protected against." An obnoxious voice says from behind me. I know the source immediately.
Rolling my eyes, I turn to face him. Sirius Black. It's too late in the night to deal with his shit, I think to myself. But I don't back down. I never do.
"That's where you're wrong. Us Slytherin Prefects are meant to protect the other students from Gryffindors' idiocy. Seems you were all given a little too much braun and too little brain."
Sirius chuckles lowly, shaking his head at me as he takes a few steps closer. "How did you even become a prefect anyways, y/l/n?"
I roll my eyes once again, something I seem to do at least a thousand times every time I'm in his presence. I swear to Salazar, one day my eyes will get stuck at the back of my head and he'll be the one to blame. "Because I worked hard, got top grades and earned it. Can't say the same for you. You're not even smart enough to realize being out in the corridors past curfew is against school rules, let alone have grades high enough to be Gryffindor prefect."
"And what are you going to do about me being out past curfew? Punish me?" He teases, clearly thinking I won't do anything. That's where he's wrong.
"I think 10 points from Gryffindor will be sufficient, and detention Friday night."
He narrows his eyes at me. "You can't do that." He accuses.
I throw my head back with a laugh before quirking my lip up in a smile. "Aw, is your brain so tiny that you've forgotten Prefects can take points and give detentions? Honestly Black, I was made Prefect two years ago, you would think the idea would have stuck by now."
"I'll get you back for this, y/l/n."
"Wrong again!" I laugh. "You have no power over me. And neither does your best friend Lupin. Prefects can't take points from other prefects."\
"I'll come up with something else." He smirks, before turning away and heading back to Gryffindor towers.
Shit. If there's one thing that miserable, no-good for anything blood traitor can do, it's to stick to his word.

I'M leaning back in my chair, waiting for Transfiguration class to start when McGonagall waltzes in, immediately making eye contact with me. "Miss y/l/n, you'll be serving detention with me tomorrow night."
My best friend, Leila Hawthorne, gives me a weird glance. I just shrug at her, not knowing what the hell this is about. I raise my hand. "I'm sorry Professor but why?"
She levels me with her stare. "It has come to my attention that you and Mr. Mulciber have been sneaking into broom closets in between classes. As you well know, intimacy between students in public spaces and during school hours is very much frowned upon."
I sigh, slumping back into my seat. Who the hell snitched on Axel and I? "And who is is that told you this?" I ask, crossing my arms over my chest.
"That is none of your business, y/n." She says, before directing our attention to the front of the class.
Right. I'm already pretty sure I know who it was, and I don't need her to tell me. Sirius said he would get back at me and I guess this was his way of doing that. Of course, McGonagall would probably not trust Black's word with all the pranks he's constantly pulling and the trouble he's getting into. It must have been Remus, one of Sirius' best friends.
Those fuckers. They call themselves The Marauders, as if they're important enough to deserve a title, walking around the school as if they own this place. Whether it's known to everyone or not, the Slytherins are the ones who truly rule these halls. The children of Death Eaters, those in Voldemort's closest circle of friends.
I don't necessarily agree with their views, but nobody can know that. The guise that I support pureblood supremacy is what keeps me alive, what keeps me with friends who have my back. If my parents ever had a doubt in their mind about my loyalty, if they ever knew that I don't hate muggle-borns, half-bloods, muggles or blood-traitors, they wouldn't just disown me. They'd kill me.
I know a war is coming and my only goal is survival. And in order to do that, I need to be on the right side. And lately, the winning side is looking a lot like the wrong side.

A/N: Yay, first chapter done! I really hope you like it so far even though it's not much to go on right now. But I just want to thank you all for waiting patiently for me to update. The editing of my WIP is going well, but it's still in progress so updates for this book will be a bit slower than my other ones. I'm aiming for one chapter a week, if not 2-3. I hope that's okay!
P.S. Mulciber is canonically known as being friends with Snape during their time at Hogwarts, but in this story he's also kind of with y/n, but also not really. It's more of a casual hookup thing. An important thing to note is that, his father Mulciber the first, was friends with Tom Riddle during their time at Hogwarts. Mulciber II wasn't given a name in the books so I just named him Axel, although most of the time he'll just be referred to as Mulciber.
