The Walkin' Stick

Chapter One- Meeting Bloober

"Push me!" Mia demanded, getting into the toddler swing. I did an undertuck as she squealed with joy.

Three year olds are sooo cute.

"Hey, when you're done there, can we go to the forest and the creek?" my twelve year old sister Poppy asked.

"Sure."

Mia said she was done a few minutes later. Then we headed for the forest.

"Piggyback!" Mia said. Poppy put her on her back. "Wheeee!"

I stepped over a prickly branch. "Watch out for prickly bushes." I warned.

I spotted the creek. "There!" I shouted. Poppy ran to the edge, Mia almost falling in.

"Isn't it beautiful?" Poppy whispered.

It was beautiful. The gray-pink rocks glistened in the August sunlight. Little minnows touched my feet as I put them in.

Mia leaned over and tried to catch a minnow. It swam away quickly. She pouted. Poppy explained to her that is she squeezed it, it would die. Mia nodded.

Suddenly, a flash blinded our eyes. It went away quickly, thought.

Then we heard footsteps.

"Let's get out of here!" Poppy sat up.

"No!" I blocked the path. "If we just cross the river using that plank," I pointed to a long piece, already going over the stream. "we can go investigate."

Poppy nodded and went across. I followed, clutching Mia.

"Crap, there's other people here!" Poppy pointed to a clearing in the woods. There was two boys, about me and Poppy's ages. In the smaller boy's hand was what looked like an iron.

And there, running around on the ground, was a... stick?!

We all screamed.

Mia pointed at it and laughed. "Bloober!" she said.

"Get out! Get out!" The older boy screamed.

"No." I came closer to the stick. "What is that?" I pointed at it.

"A... uh... can we tell her?" He asked his brother. His brother nodded.

"Uh... well, we tested out our newest invention, the Livernator, on it, and, erm... it came to life."

I screamed.
