"Alright! I give up! You win." My best friend Gina said while gasping for air.
"Ha, I knew you couldn't withstand an hour of beach body. You were always the un-athletic one." I taunted as I took a swig of water. "Alright, now cough up the dough."
She looked at me with her big green eyes, a look of innocence portrayed on her face, "Do I really have to pay you? I mean, you knew I wouldn't be able to do it in the first place."
"Yeah I know, but your the one who agreed to the bet. Hand it over."
Gina rolled her eyes and reluctantly handed me the money.
"Thanks! I can go buy myself dinner now."
"Yeah, unless you can find a restaurant in California with a meal that costs less than ten dollars, you can't buy shit."
"Gosh Gina, thank you so much for your enthusiasm. It's greatly appreciated."
"What can I say, that's my duty as your best friend. I've gotta go, my mom said I had to be home by five. Are we still on for ice cream tomorrow night?"
A wave of panic rushed over me. "Oh, I totally forgot. My mom said she needed My brother and I home tomorrow. Something about how our family needs to spend more time with each other."
"Can't she talk to you another night? It's fatty Friday at Gelina's! All ice cream cones are 45% off." She said, whining.
"I'm sorry, I really can't. What about next Friday?" I asked with a hopeful smile.
Gina mulled over the idea for a moment, then said, "I suppose. But don't think this means that I'm not mad at you, because I am."
"Yeah yeah, of course. Whatever you say. I know you still love me."
"You wish. Bye girl!"
"Bye!"
I couldn't wait to jump in the shower. Gina and I had been working out for the past hour and a half, because we both felt like we needed to get ourselves into shape before summer came. I had let myself go over the past few months, and it was not something I was proud of. All throughout high school I had been the girl with the perfect body. Flat stomach, toned arms. I loved myself, and everybody loved me. Then my boyfriend of three years, John, broke up with me. Instead of drowning my sorrows in alcohol like most teenagers did, I drowned my sorrows in food. Sweet, delicious food. I quickly learned that was not a good choice. I blew up like a tic, weighing in at a whopping 180 pounds. this may not seem like too much to some people, but keep in mind that im only 5.2. I was lucky that I had Gina to help me through this rough area in my life, but other people who I thought were my true friends left me in the dark. During my senior year, I wasn't the popular one anymore. I wasn't the girl who football players chased after. I was just Lilianna Calichiogné. The fat oaf.
"Lily! Get your ass down here! NOW!"
I was wondering why my mother had such a harsh tone, but I did as she asked.
"What, mom?"
"Sit down. The both of you."
My older brother Anthony and I exchanged looks at each other, and reluctantly sat down. At this point, I was contemplating all the questionable things I did this year.
Shoot, I failed that chemistry test last week. Maybe that's what she wants to ask me...
"To make this easier, I'm going to start with Lily." My mother said while sipping her wine. "I know how hard you've been working in school... And-"
"OK mom, you got me. I'm so so sorry that I failed my test last week, but I asked Mr. Sadowski if I could make it up and he said I could do it on Friday and I was so happy and I was going to tell you right away and-"
"Wait wait. You failed one of your tests?"
Whoops.. I just buried myself a very.. VERY.. large hole.
"Oh.. You weren't going to ask me about that?" I asked, laughing nervously in my seat.
"Not even close."
"Oh.. Well, in that case, forget everything I just said."
Thankfully, she shrugged it off. " I was going to say that I know how hard you have been working in school, and that I wanted to reward you with something.. Actually, reward the both of you."
My heart beat was becoming faster and faster each word she spoke. I played it off like I was cool with everything.
"Alright. What is it?"
"You're father and I have been talking, and..."
This was it! The point where my mom was going to tell me that she bought me a fabulous new car!"
"We're going to Italy!"
I stared at her in disbelief.
"Umm.. What?"
"You heard me! I've got to say, even I was a little shocked myself that your father agreed to this idea, but a deal is a deal!"
I truly did want to go to italy . Really, I did. But I still had a couple pounds that I wanted to lose, I was in no way shape or form ready to wear a bathing suit yet.
"Well that is truly grand, mother." Anthony said clapping his hands together, "But I've got a date with Emily at seven. And we all know it takes me a good hour and a half to get myself camera ready."
"You don't have any questions?" She asked him.
"Nope. None at all. Love ya." With that, he disappeared into the bathroom.
"Ugh, I'm going to take a shower." I said while slodging up from the table.
"Love you too honey!" My mother yelled to me.
After my much needed shower, I did what most teenagers do; watch Netflix. About five or six episodes later of The Walking Dead, I found my eyes fluttering shut, and I was asleep.
Heyyyyyyy lol.
So, first chapter. Let meh know what you think!
