SENARA
six hours
REGULUS FELT EMPTY after crying in the girl's arms. But not in the way that Sirius talked about while he stood on the edge of the roof. The way the clouds feel after the rain and there's room in the sky for the sun, once more.
She kissed the top of his head and ran her hand over his arm as he clung her to torso. She noticed the small creature Regulus brought with him sat in the boat, facing the other way. It was the most peculiar little thing as it seemed entranced by the water.
She knew why, there were people down there. Cursed ones, who were begging to come out. Begging for agency again. Begging to be free of their murky imprisonment.
He listened to her soft heart beat as it calmingly kept going. It kept on beating. Kept on pumping. Even though she was invisibly chained here ... she ... he did not know her name.
To Regulus, and perhaps anyone that might meet her, she was only 'she'. She did not have a name, so perhaps that's why she knew so much about them. Because there was no one to pick her out from a crowd. No one to set expectations upon her. No one to influence.
"What is your name?" he asked as he sat up.
They were quite close to each other, their noses almost nearly touching. But they didn't have anyone to be embarrassed around. No one was on that island except for him and her.
"I don't know," she murmured. "Would you like to give me one?"
"I'm not sure I know enough to do that," he replied.
"What's in a name?" she asked with a ghost of a smile. "What do I remind you of?"
Regulus went silent. He reminded her of the sunset he'd seen on his way in. The way the once true blue sky became streaked with paint, covering the horizon in a blazing palate of wonder. Striking the fancy of children and old painters alike. Being magic. Being tragic.
"Light," he replied. "You remind me of light."
"Light it is, then," she said with a smile. "My name must be Light."
"If you don't remember anything, how do you remember how to speak English?" Regulus interrupted.
"It's like down do I remember how to move my arms and stand and push my hair around," she explained. "There are just some things that you know, despite knowing nothing. The body and the mind are separated by an 'and' for a reason. They are together, yet not dependent on each other."
"Light is not a name," he diverted. "There was a patron saint of a muggle town Siri- my brother took me to see when I was younger. Her name was Senara. I remember I asked what it meant and it means light."
"Senara," she repeated. "Senara."
"Do you like Senara as your name?" he asked curiously.
"Senara," she whispered. "Thank you."
"You're welcome, Senara," he said with a soft smile.
