"Where's the light switch?" Amy hissed, trying her best not to fall over anything in the darkness.

"Try next to the door? I don't know!"

After the sound of something being kicked over and the faint noise of Amy stumbling around, the lights flickered to life.

"That's a bit better." She said, picking up the trash that had erupted onto the floor after she'd kicked over the bin.

"This is a place is like a teenage boys bedroom crammed into a whole apartment." I said, running my fingers through my hair. The kitchen had the same amount of mess and chaos that took place in my brothers room yet somehow there was more of it.

"Honestly, it gets worse." Amy replied. "You do not want to see the state of their bathroom."

I'd stopped listening to Amy long ago and instead began the search for Michael's bedroom.

"Are you gonna tell me what we're doing to his room?" She asked.

I unzipped the duffel bug I'd brought with me and pull out a few rolls of cling film. "Just take these."

"Cling film?" She sighed. "You know this pranks been done before."

"Not by me." I smiled.

Leading off from the corridor, I could see four doors. The first had the door left wide open and, judging by the puddles and piles of toilet paper covering the tiles, I assumed it was the bathroom. Another room was the living room and the third had a room sign saying it was Josh's, so I had one choice left.

I turned the handle on the door and it slowly creaked open. The room was dark, with most of he furniture barley visible, yet there was one thing I could see. Sitting on the double bed in the centre of the room was Michael, the light from his laptop shining onto his face.

"Morning Ava!" He grinned. "Your up early."

"Why the hell are you still up at half three in the morning!?" I exclaimed.

"I could ask you the same thing."

"I was...I thought there was a...umm...fire! That's it, I thought I saw smoke coming from your block and Amy wanted to come see if Josh was okay and because I'm a responsible parent I came with her." I said, making up the story as I went.

"So why are you standing in my bedroom with a shitload of cling film?" He asked.

"Good question." Amy smiled cheekily at me.

"To put out the fire." I said.

Michael looked up at me. "Wouldn't it just, kinda, melt?"

"Good point." I chuckled. "Why didn't I think of that?"

"Because you're not here because you thought my apartment was on fire. You were planning to cover my room in cling film, it's a standard prank, Ava.."

"Dammit." I muttered. "Any chance we can pretend this didn't happen?"

"Nope." He laughed.

I started to cram the rolls of cling film back into the bag. "Well, I'll...I'll just be going then."

This time we went out the front door, seeing as there was no reason to go through the torture of squeezing back out the window. The sky was still dark and the streets still silent as made our way back home.

"What idiot is still awake at three in the morning?" I said. "Like, honestly, who does that?"

"You." Amy replied.

"Yeah, well that's not the point." I said, slamming the elevator button.

Nothing happened, so I hit it again. And again. And again. Until...
