It was Friday morning. When I woke up, the sun was peeking through my window, threatening to blind me if I didn't get out of bed. I struggled. As I sat up, I winced and groaned. I was sore from the day before. The pain caused me to stand in an awkward, slouching position. I looked at the markings on my palm- Andrew's phone number.
I walked towards my dresser, leaning on it for support as I searched the drawers for my cellphone. That thing must be as dead as a doornail.
I found it in the third drawer, along with it's charger. It was a touchscreen phone that my grandmother got me for my 16th birthday earlier that year. I never really use it, which is why it ended up in my drawer. I walked over to my bed and fit the charger into the outlet behind it. I plugged the other end into my phone and watched it come to life. I saw that I had four text messages- all saying that my phone bill had been paid for the month. My grandmother had been paying it all this time, even though I haven't been using it. She really cared for me.
I added Andrew's number to my contacts. Now I had two numbers on my phone, which proved how damn sociable I am.
I opened up messenger and started the conversation:
Mason: Hey
Andrew: who's this?
Mason: It's Mason.
Andrew: sup?
Mason: I'm sore as fuck, It'll be hard to walk all the way to school.
Andrew: my mom can drive us there if you want.
Mason: you don't have to go through that trouble for me.
Andrew: dude, it's nothing, just be over here by 7:30
Mason: thanks
Andrew: No Problem ^-^Looking at the time on my phone, I realized that I had thirty minutes to get ready. I really needed a shower. I left my phone on the bed so it could charge. I stepped out of my room and walked to the bathroom down the hall. I took off my clothes and got into the shower. I looked down at my body and saw a dark purple mark where the asshole punched me. It really stood out against my pale skin and hurt when my hand went over it.
After I rinsed off, I got out of the shower, wrapped a towel around my waist and went to my bedroom. I checked my phone -which was 98% charged- and checked the time: 7:28am.
I went over to my closet and put on my Van Halen t-shirt along with a pair of grey skinny jeans. I yanked the charger out of my phone, got my backpack and made my way downstairs and out of the house. Andrew stood by what I assumed to be his mom's car.
"Just in time." He said as I got closer to where he was.
His mother came out of the house in a golden-yellow suit. Andrew told me that she worked at one of the hotels in town.
"Good morning, Mason." she greeted.
"Good morning, Ms.White" I greeted back. I remember her. She went to my mom's funeral. It's strange how I only got to know Andrew the day before.
We all got into the car, both Andrew and I sitting in the back seat. He looked different than the day before. Maybe because he wore different clothes? I don't know.
He wore a gray t-shirt, blue skinny jeans and a pastel rainbow hoodie tied around his waist. He wasn't wearing his glasses. I almost didn't notice because he was looking down at his phone.
I was gonna ask him about it, but it felt awkward to start a conversation while his mom was there.
I felt my phone vibrate. It was a new message:
Andrew: I see you checking me out ;)
Mason: was just wondering where your glasses were :P
Andrew: I'm trying out some new contacts.
Mason: cool.I found it weird that we were texting when we were right next to each other.
I wanted to tell him that he looked better with his glasses but voted against it.
