I must be quick today. Our cells are due to be inspected at any moment.

The day before last I was introduced to a young lady by the name of Launa. She had been travelling with us for quite some time although I had never seen her prior to this introduction. We discussed her arrest. She had been chased through town and beaten in front of her child by a man she did not recognise. The man then fled. She did not see him again. I did not see how this was an offence until she mentioned fraud. She had gone to tell the authorities of ordeal but instead got charged for making a fraudulent statement.

I thought to myself that could happen to anyone. I was worried for my sister back home. I would never put anyone through the ordeal. Not even a petty thief.

My last diary entry was found by my warden. I got 20 lashings. That is the reason for the now frequent inspections. I am just relived that we will not be body searched today.

I hear footsteps. Heavy footsteps. That is not a sound I like to hear. It means an inspection.
