Kyle is already there when I walk down the stairs. Mom looks tired and sad. I stare at the food; it doesn't look bad, its broccoli, and some rice and chicken legs. Looks good to me! There's a glass of milk beside my plate, great, I love milk! It makes me taller! Maybe if I drink more milk I might become as tall as Cody!

"Mom is everything okay, you look sad?" I talked with mouthful of food.

"Don't worry honey everything is fine! Didn't I tell you about chewing with your mouth shut and not talking during mouthful of food? It is so impolite.

"Ok mom, if you're so sure!" I go back to eating the scrumptious food on my plate.

A couple of minutes pass. It was so quiet I heard the crickets outside.

"Katie?"

"Yes mom?" I made sure I finish chewing and gulped the food down for my manners.

"I checked your grades online..."

"And? Mom, I am not worried! They are good, and I think you're fine with it."

"Yes they are pretty good but you can improve! You have the potential in you to get 100's in everything!"

"Don't be so sure," I said as I gulped down my second mouthful of food and drink some of my milk.

What was she saying? I always get great grades most of them are 100's and in the high 90's and nothing lower than a 95. Was she trying to scare me? Does this mean no birthday party tomorrow and no Travel trip!!!!! Aahhhhhhhhhh please don't let my dreams drown! Those thoughts run through my head and I choke on my milk.

"You ok sweetie?"

"I'm fine mom, the food was delicious."

At dinner Kyle was very quiet he didn't say anything at all? Does he know something that I don't?

When dinner was over I cleared the table and washed the dishes, the last time I washed was this morning, so it should be Kyle's turn, and I'm guessing Kyle went to his room and Mom went to do some work. After I am done I wash my hands and head to Kyle's room.

'Knock knock!' I knock on Kyle's bedroom doing mom's knock hoping Kyle would answer.Tricky me.

"Yes?" He answers.

I open the door. "Kyle? Is everything alright? You're not talking a lot, or annoying me this is very unusual, you can talk to me, about girl problems and whatsoever,"

"So, you want me to be annoying. I don't get you, when I annoy you, get irritated and when I'm quiet you're worried?" He makes a twisted face.

"Pfft! So whatcha doing?" I scoff.

"Playing on my P.S.P! What else do you think I'm doing?"

"Cool!"

"Really Kate?"

"So, will you tell me about how you and Cody became so close?" I hope he answers.

"No," And he scores.

"Why?" I continue.

"Because I don't want you to date him! He's like a brother to me and you're my sister so yeah it doesn't seem right... you like him don't you?" One of his eyebrow is up.

........

"It's obvious, you do! Like why would you care finding out more about him...Girls only ask for info on guys they like," He continues, without even looking up at me this time.

"How do you know so much? So, what did mom want to talk to you about after you came from the park?" Changing the subject is the best choice. But also I'm giving a try to find out more of what he knows and I don't.

"Oh nothing!"He says. "Nothing you need to know," Then he whispered that.

"Excuse me? Did you say something? I didn't hear,"

"Nothing," He doesn't give me a chance.

"Where is mom right now?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

"In the basement...Why do you keep asking me questions?"

"She was in the basement when I left to get you from the park. What's wrong with the basement? Why is she in the basement for like, ever?" I ignored his question.

"Nothing!"

That's what you always say. Ok bye I'm going to go to the basement. I'm bored.

Kyle jumps out of bed and runs downstairs...

I run down too to catch up.

"Kyle what was that for?"

He ignores me.

Kyle blocks the basement door.

"Why can't I go down in the basement?"

"You can't...Because there is this monster there!"

"Really Kyle I'm 18 not 5!"

"If you try going down there, I am going to tell, ah, um, Cody, that, um, you like him!" He scratches his head.

"No you won't," I say, though I don't sound frightened.

"Why not?"

"Because then I'll tell Emily that you like her! Which you do!"

"No you won't,"

"Why not?"

"I don't like this game, but, I won't tell him, you won't tell her." He says. "Let's shake on that."

I shake his hands, and, guilty inside me.

Because he can't stop me from going in. I am going in, some when.
