Y/N POV

"Are you lost, little rabbit?" A voice inquired, making my spine shiver. I felt the air go heavy, my legs numbing, refusing to respond to my brain's commands as I hit the floor with a pitiful attempt of a cry.
"I will not hurt you, little rabbit... not yet" The voice went in an excited melody. "I am more than willing to have a little fun with you first". The lights went on unexpectedly, and, with their huge crimson eyes and their wide smile, Quaestor Valdemar stood in front of me.
"Quaestor" I managed to sputter as I fought against the dense atmosphere of the dungeon. Then, everything went black.

I had been in Vesuvia for a couple of months now; I was brought in here as a lady in waiting for Countess Nadia by Count Lucio, though she actually never wanted me by her side. I intended to approach her, tried to talk to her, attempted to compliment her dashing beauty, but she was always locked up in that tower of hers where I was forbidden to enter.
Hereby, the days here were endless for me. I woke up at sunrise with no task, with no one requiring my services... not even when the countess went to town. She either went with her husband or with the other servant of hers... the one she trusts the most... Portia. Feeling useless, I spent the entire day at the library, figuring out what I could continue with the moment I began to read a volume: I got in touch with romance, history, poetry, art and even medicine on the verge of boredom.
Days went by at the slow pace of a requiem; just like the woman I was supposed to be with, I consumed my time locked in a place with nobody around, in the dead silence of that secluded part of the palace.
However, one day, things went differently.

I woke up yawning to the sounds of voices at my door:
"Lucio, we do not need her". The Countess' familiar voice pierced through my ears. "Let her go back to her place. She surely has someone out there."
I did not. Lucio knew it. And, of course, Nadia would have known it too had she ever wanted my company. I come from nowhere and go to nowhere. I just roam the world, trying to make a living. For the first time, I felt comfortable. Bored, but comfortable. And now she wanted me out.
"She has nowhere to go, Noddy." Lucio's unmistakable voice stated. "Let me make her a courtier".
"A courtier?" I gasped to myself. Why on Earth would I be a courtier? I am no noblewoman, well, now I am, but still. Besides, my title is greater than "courtier". I sighed. However, maybe there was some more fun to it. As far as I was concerned, there were other courtiers, though I had not met them yet. Perhaps, I could at last talk to someone real.
"Lucio". She grunted. "Look, I am not going to make myself repeated".
"Countess". I intervened, opening the door, still with my nightgown on and my hair messy. "If you want me out, you should inform it to me yourself. Quite a cowardice to send someone else on such a disgraceful task. I am your loyal subject, after all".
"Y/N... My sincere apologies... I did not mean to..."
"You meant to, Noddy!" Exclaimed Lucio.
I chuckled.
Nadia huffed and left us, probably uttering a tantrum.
"I'm sorry, Y/N", Lucio apologized. "But you see, I did want you to stay".
"Then I shall, Your Excellency", I bowed. "After all, the courtiers respond to you".
"You are right, Y/N". He grinned. "It's high time you meet them".
