Scarlett tried to suppress the bad feeling tugging at her when she bid Hunter farewell as he went off to start his shift at the perimeter on the south side of the pack's territory. She and Hunter weren't necessarily close, but she knew how much he meant to both Asher and Carter, and he seemed so grateful she had helped him with the rogues, she didn't want to see him get hurt again.
The nerves consumed her as the hot water of her shower attacked her skin. Her worries were so loud in her mind she didn't hear Asher climb into the shower with her, him wrapping his arms around her bare waist, kissing the crook of her neck. "He'll be okay, Scar."
She leaned into his embrace and sighed. "They got him once, they could get him again."
"He's been in this pack for four years and was on his own before that. He knows what he's doing, the only reason why the rogues got at him in the first place was because they caught him off guard but now he knows what to expect of them," Asher murmured against her skin.
Scarlett wanted to protest, but the words were lost as Asher kissed her neck, then nipping at her skin before he began to suck. She arched her neck back to give him more access. As Asher worked on her neck, his hands drifted down her stomach, down her abdomen, to her core. He began rubbing small circles, earning a moan from Scarlett. The sound of it snapped Asher into action, turning off the shower, and turning her to face him. His golden eyes stared at her with such intensity, she couldn't look away.
His hands gripped her waist and instinctively, she wrapped her legs around his. Asher pushed her against the wall, his grip on her tight as he entered her slowly. He arched his head back and groaned. "Fuck, Scar."
She couldn't reply in words. Instead, she kissed him as his thrust quickened, making her feel euphoric. She couldn't tell where she ended and he began because each time they were together, it felt like they were connected, with no definitive distinction. They were one.
His thrust hit her sweet spot and Scarlett tore her lips away from his as she moaned his name, her nails raking down his shoulder blades.
Asher chuckled at the action. "Do you like that, baby girl?"
Scarlett nodded her head with a whimper as he kept going, faster and harder.
Soon, they reached their highs together.
###
After their shower, Scarlett was getting dressed for dinner. She, Carter, Lilith, and Asher were planning to have a meal together, discussing all they have found about her father, which wasn't much. Scarlett fanned out her damp hair from Asher's old hoodie she stole from him years ago. She cast a glance to him as he tugged his v-neck down. "I'm checking on Hunter before dinner."
Asher winced as he scratched the back of his head. "Scar, I know you're worried but after Z-" he stopped himself. "I just don't want something to happen."
"Zion was distracted after our fight," Scarlett began. "You said Hunter would be fine, I just want to make sure. If I see he is fine, I won't worry as much."
Asher stepped toward her and kissed her on the tip of her nose. "You are the most stubborn woman I have ever met. I'll meet you in the back when you're done."
Scarlett shot him a cheeky grin. "I love you."
Ash sucked in a breath as if he couldn't quite believe she loved him, yet as he exhaled, he smiled back at her, his canines prominent. "I love you too."
The pair left their room, but separated as Scarlett went out the front door of the pack house to go see Hunter. He was positioned at the south end of their territory, which was closest to the town.
Scarlett was glad she didn't go to check on Hunter as late as she did with Zion. The sun was still up and likely wouldn't set for another hour or so. At least she could take comfort in knowing if their were rogues around, she'd be able to see them in her human form without worrying of them hiding in the darkness.
Eventually, Scarlett reached the edge of the forest, where the sign of the town stood, Hunter leaning against a tree close to it. Scarlett released a sigh of relief. "Looking good, Hunter."
Hunter turned around at the sound of her voice, a look of shock Scarlett didn't quite understand as she got closer. "Scarlett," he said quickly, looking as though he were fighting to look to the road and focus on her. "What are you doing here?"
Scarlett tilted her head a laughed a little. "I was worried. I wanted to che-"
Before she could finish her sentence, a man appeared behind Hunter and Scarlett's eyes went wide. "Hunter behind you!"
Hunter didn't move, he didn't react at all. The man merely chuckled as he patted Hunter on the shoulder. His dark eyes zeroed in on her. "Here we were trying to plan how to get her away from her mate, and she comes to us."
Scarlett took a step backwards, tearing her gaze from the man to Hunter, his jaw set in a tight line. "Hunter, what's going on?"
The man continued to chuckle once again.
"I'm sorry, Scarlett," Hunter said, yet his expression was anything but apologetic and he lunged.
Scarlett lurched to the side, ducking out of his attempt of grabbing her. Mentally, she tried to think of all the training she had the past two months. She knew she couldn't take Hunter or the man. Hunter trained his whole life and the man likely did too, all Scarlett hoped for was an escape.
Hunter seemed taken aback she escaped his initial grab, but he quickly recovered, trying once more but Scarlett was already running as fast as she could.
Twigs, branches, and leaves slapping against her face, likely scratching her skin but she was too preoccupied with running to care at the stinging sensation that danced on her face and arms. Hunter was close behind her and was gaining fast. She needed to throw him off guard, quickly, she threw herself to the right, nearly falling to the ground as she did so. Luckily, she regained her balance and kept going.
She knew she should shift, shifting would give her the ability to go faster, but she never trained to shift quickly. Instead, Scarlett continued to zigzag, changing directions every so often to confuse Hunter.
She didn't realize how far she ran until she couldn't hear Hunter anymore. Part of her wanted to stop to catch her breath, but the other part of her knew that was a stupid idea. Scarlett kept going until she ran into something hard, nearly tumbling backward but a tight grip on her wrist stopped her from going anywhere.
Her eyes went wide as she beheld the man Hunter was with before he tried to attack her. Scarlett had been so focused on escaping Hunter, she nearly forgotten about the man.
His eyes glared down at her, yet a feral smile tugged on his lips. "You were hard to find, Daisy."
From behind her, something pierced into her neck. Scarlett could tell by the feel of it, it was some sort of needle. Fire burned through her, making her skin hot and her blood boil. The pain came quick, so quick, her body couldn't process it and everything turned to darkness.
