Monday
It was 8:00 am and the halls were filled with chattering students, like any other Monday. Though for Brian, Bender, Allison, Claire and Andrew this Monday in particular was different. So many things changed from Saturday to Monday. During their all day detention, they had predicted the vibe between them today. Although that was before Claire & John and Allison & Andrew kissed. The bell rang and Claire and her friends stood at their lockers chit-chatting about the latest trends and how pastels were so last season. She opened her locker and was surprised to see a tiny piece of paper fall out.
"What's that?" her friend Ashley pointed, ready to open the note.
Claire opened the note discretely and as soon as she read "see ya later-John Bender" she hid it in her locker.
"Oh, nothing!" she replied, "it was just a reminder I made myself to uh...go um..pick up my dress from the dry cleaners."
"Then why so secret?" Ashley hissed, "I just don't get you Claire."
Ashley and the gang walked over to their classroom and left Claire alone in the halls. She quickly grabbed her books and as she turned around she had bumped into a large muscular figure. It was Andrew.
"Hey Claire!" Andrew grinned with his gym t-shirt over his shoulder.
Claire noticed that he seemed much happier, more lively then he was on Saturday.
"Hey! How have things been?" she smiled sweetly.
"Great actually. I uh..talked to my old man. I told him how I felt."
"And?" she said anxiously.
"He didn't take it too well. I mean, he didn't say much. He just sat there while I talked, cbut I could tell he was angry. It was just good to let it off my chest, even though he yelled at me quite awhile after. Just as long as he's aware of my feelings now, it's cool."
"That's great! Well I'm glad things are slowly progressing, but I really can't talk I have to be in class any minute now." As she turned around and rapidly walked away, Andrew stopped her.
"Claire wait!" she turned around to face him. "I'm glad we're talking."
She half smiled, "me too."
---------There was a knock on the door at room 225, the Physics Club. Mr.Bentley excitedly marched his way over to the door as swung it open. Though he was not expecting to see John Bender and Principal Vernon at his door.
"Well, hello Mr.Vernon, Mr.Bender."
Mr.Vernon took a big step forward and John followed. Every single student's jaw dropped including Brian Johnson's. The students whispered and bit their nails in fear though Brian grinned at John, and John grinned back."Quiet down!" Rich raised his voice, "Bender will be joining this wonderful group of students here in the Physics Club, this semester. He was forced to join a club, but especially chose this one."
The students gave each other uneasy looks and were filling up any free seats with books or some other items so Bender wouldn't sit next to them.
"How wonderful!" Mr.Bentley exclaimed. Even though he didn't seem too pleased. "Now John where would you like to sit?"John pointed and everyone's eye followed his finger to his desired seat, "Next to my man, Brian".
------------
The bell rang and first period was over. As Claire grabbed her books she though about the note John had left in her locker.
"See ya later-John Bender" was all she read. She hadn't seen him this morning and she hopes she wouldn't see him for the rest of the day. Even though she really did like him, how could they be seen together? What was Ashley and her other friends going to think of her? More importantly would John still be into her, or would he have gone out with another one of his girls which he just "never threw away". If they were together would she just be something in John's world that he never bit rid of, just like the things in her purse?A million questions were being formed in her mind and she hadn't even noticed Brian waving at her from down the hall. Though the one thing she did notice was this young, happy girl walking the halls. She squinted but couldn't make out the figure who was wearing a mini black skirt, white blouse and a bright pink cardigan. As the girl walked closer and closer, she waved at Claire. Then it hit, that it was Allison. Ever since Saturday, and Claire's makeover, Allison was transformed. Over the weekend she hadn't gone back to her dandruff filled scruffy black hair and the dark circles around her eyes. The only black thing she wore was her mini skirt and didn't look as if she was wearing a potato sack. Claire finally waved back and awed in admiration as Allison turned in circles, showing off.
"You kept the look!" Claire said smiling from ear to ear.
Allison bit her lip and nodded.
Claire's friends walked up behind her and gave each other confused looks, who was this new girl?
"Did you make a new hot friend Saturday?" Ashley asked Claire, admiring Allison's shoes.
"She's not new!" Claire chuckled, "that's Allison Reynolds!"
"You mean like creepy, weird, compulsive liar Allison Reynolds?" Ashley questioned slowly looking up from the shoes.
"I've changed!" Allison shouted. Her hands shook. Claire could tell that she was starting to get figidity, Allison needed a new start at the school. Ashley wants going to ruin it.
"Clearly not! See she's still lying. She obviously hasn't changed." Ashley and the gang started to walk away, and tears formed in Allison's eyes.
Claire didn't know what to say, "Look it's okay, forget about them I'm really sorry-"
"Claire you coming!?" Ashley shouted from down the hall.
Claire turned back and signalled "one more minute".
"I'm sorry I even came to speak to you. Even though I look completely different, I'm clearly not any different. I'm still a freak." and Allison walked away.
---------
Claire got to her locker and was feeling horrible about what happened with Allison. Why were her friends so nasty? Is that what people thought of her too? Though as she put in her locker combination, she remembered the note. She took the little paper and read it."Hey Claire, meet me behind the school at 4:00 see ya later-John Bender"
She instantly smiled and headed off to her class. Maybe he changed over the weekend, for the better.
