the bell on the door made a light jingle as he walked into the place.
komaeda walked into one of the local coffee shops for the first time.
he had passed the place itself many times before, it was always to his right when he walked to his university. he just never bothered to visit, as he never drank coffee.although that had to change for once, since he was a uni student with deadlines.
and being a uni student came with a lot of things: being stressed, pulling all-nighters, going broke and feeling dead inside.
after a few months he finally decided that he would have to become friends with coffee if he wanted to survive the semester, and there he was, on a lovely afternoon, in a coffee shop.there were people standing waiting for their orders, people in line, people sitting behind tables either chit-chatting or working.
the scenery outside was mostly gray, as it was a city, but some blooming plants stood out.
since it was spring, the sun was still high enough to shine brightly and bring a yellowish hue to the landscape.getting a spot in line he stared at the menu with wide eyes 'why are there so many options?', he panicked, his knowledge of coffee was small, hell, he barely drank it.
fiddling with the coins in his pocket he continued staring at the menu until he finally decided on something and began repeating his order in his mind over and over again.
iced coffee with milk iced coffee with milk iced coffee with m- "hello! may i take your order?" a voice made his mind grind to a halt.
he looked up at the barista standing in front of him, a polite smile on his face.
realizing that this was becoming awkward he quickly blurted out "iced coffee with milk please uh…"the barista blinked and then chuckled, "alright, that'll be 2.10, and could i get a name for the order?"
it was awkward but komaeda managed to pay for it and got to waiting on the side.
fiddling with his hands he worried.
what if they got his order wrong?
what if it tasted terrible and he had just wasted his money?
what if someone slipped something into his drink and he died while walking on the street?he stared at the window in hopes to calm his nerves while waiting.
--
"iced coffee with milk for komaeda!" a voice shot through the shop and komaeda scrambled up to the desk to pick up his drink as if it was going to run away.
after inspecting it for a bit he realized his name had been spelled as 'komaida'.
despite the fact that his name being misspelled happened sometimes, even if it wasn't that hard to spell, it still made him laugh.he looked up to see the barista smiling at him, before turning away.
--
komaeda experimented with different coffee types every time he visited the shop, he had grown to like it.
and the coffee had helped him pull all-nighters and find motivation to meet the deadlines for his assignments.
but what he remembered the most was the barista 'hinata' who always misspelled his name, the fact that it was on purpose was obvious.
every visit the spelling got more ridiculous.
'komada'
'kooomaeda
'qomaeda'
'kokomaida'
and many more misspellings, it was stupid but funny how bad you could mess up at a name like 'komaeda'.after the line cleared he walked up to the counter and placed his order, but when he got to the name part... "should i tell you how my name is spelled, hinata-kun? you keep messing it up." he tilted his head.
"i think i know already." hinata smiled."no you don't." komaeda countered, lifting an eyebrow.
"yes i do."
"no you d-, you know what, it's spelled 'k-o-m-a-e-d-a'." komaeda gave in fast, he wasn't going to hold up the line. hinata snorted.
"aw so it's not 'komaida'?" hinata grinned as he wrote down the order. "such a difficult name, no?"
komaeda sighed as a slight smile crept onto his face "it's really not that hard."
komaeda paid and left to go wait, sometimes shifting his gaze onto the barista who was making his drink.
--
"cappuccino for komaeda!" hinata called.as komaeda walked over to the counter he wondered if hinata actually wrote his name correctly for once, or if he messed something up again. probably the second option, but that's not what happened.
instead, he found something interesting.
his name HAD been written correctly but there were extra notes: 'i think you're pretty cute, if you ever want to, then call me ;)' along with a phone number.komaeda scoffed and left the coffee shop, heading to his dorm with fast steps. he was sure his cheeks were quite pink.
'perhaps i should get to know him better…' he thought while staring at his drink.
