"I'll always be with you, I promise"

I know what your thinking, another love story, the same old boy meets girl and they fall in love, but this story is different. It's more tragic than the ones you watch on Netflix.

This story is about a girl, who is left heartbroken. I am the girl.

My name is Lea Rivers. Nope, not pronounced Lee, it's pronounced Leah, my parents wanted my name to be different, but I just wanted to be normal. I wanted to fit in, not be different.

March 12th. That's the day I fell for him.

And I fell hard.

"Hey Lea, how was your week off?" James said, running up to me smiling.

"Oh hey James, it was great thanks, how was yours?" I said back to him, locking eye contact with his dark brown eyes. They were so easy to get lost in.

"I was meant to spend it with Emilia, but we broke up before the week off. You probably knew that, the whole school knows." He looked down to the floor, kicking a pebble that was sat on the floor under him.

Emilia and him dated for a while, they were THE couple of the school, everyone knew them and everyone loved them. I don't know what happened between them both, but they had a pretty bad break up, and it was obviously still affecting James.

He then looked up to me, smiled and said, "How about you come out to dinner with me tonight?"

"Yeah, I'd love that." I calmly said but inside I was going wild, James just asked me out to dinner, and I said yes! Then the sound of people shouting James names filled my head instead, and then I was alone again.

I looked up, and around, scanning the faces of people, looking for a friend. I locked eyes with a familiar face, Luke Evans. Me and Luke had been friends for years, I told him everything and I trusted him with my life. He smiled, then ran his hand through his blonde hair, messing it up. I strolled up to him, then he drew me into a hug, as he always did.

"Why are you in such a good mood? It's a Monday after a week off, this isn't like you." He said laughing at me.

"James asked me to dinner!" I blurted out, unable to hold in my excitement any longer.

He just stared at me for a second, the smile on his face slightly faded and he simply said "That's great, Lea, I didn't know you even liked him."

I didn't either. Why was I so excited? Did I like James??

"Lea, are you ok?" He said, briskly touching my arm, I nodded.

"I don't know if I like James, he's been my friend for a while now, but I might like him more than that." I mumbled, knowing it sounded stupid when I said it out loud.

"Go to the dinner, it might help you decide, anyway I've got to go to class, bye Lea." Then he turned and walked away, again leaving me stood alone and confused.

Later

School flew by, it always did to me, the same old boring lessons every day in my same old boring life. As I got home, I went straight up to my bedroom, the first room you got to as you reached the top of my staircase. I practically threw myself on my bed and just laid there for a while, then my phone pinged. It was from James.

'I'll pick you up at 7, be ready and waiting outside. Don't be late.'

I pulled myself up from my bed, and started to hunt for a nice outfit to wear. My wardrobe was filled with so many clothes, just no outfits, especially none for a dinner.

After a while of looking, I found some black jeans and a white, strapless top.

It was now 6.56, and I was ready to go, so I decided to go out and wait for James to pick me up.

7.00, I saw headlights drive towards my house, and a car pulled up on my drive. I opened the door and climbed into the front seat, the leather seat was cold on my bare arms, and the smell of cologne was almost suffocating. I never understood why guys think it's necessary to use the whole bottle.

"You look great." He whispered, then smiled at me, I smiled back, and blushed a little, James had never really complimented me before. "Ready to go?", I nodded and then we drove off.

After about 10 minutes of driving, we pulled up to a resteraunt, and James looked at me and smiled again.

The night went so fast, we ate and talked, and then we decided to take a walk, to finish the night off. I had never been to this part of town before, but James had, he seemed to know his way around like he had a map on the back of his hand. The streetlights lit up the path, like spotlights lighting up a stage, a stage for a movie, and it sure felt like I was in a movie. The sound of a water fountain suddenly caught my attention, it was beautiful, the reflection of the moon was perfect, and the water was black, just like the sky. I looked up, to see James also looking into the water. Our eyes locked again, just as they had earlier today, and again I got lost in his deep, brown eyes. He moved closer to me, still keeping eye contact then he smiled, and before I knew it our lips were touching. The kiss was short, but it was perfect, just how any first kiss should be.

We drove home in silence, but it was a comfortable silence, not awkward at all, we were simply just enjoying the company of eachother. He stopped on my driveway and I opened my door, ready to go, and then I felt him pull me back. "Wait, just a second" he said quitely, then leant in for a kiss. I slowly pulled away, not wanting to be too late to get in, and smiled at him.

I layed down in bed, staring at the ceiling. My heart was still racing, I couldn't sleep, I was so happy, almost like... was I in love? No, absolutely not. But I was very happy.

For the next week, I felt like this every night, after meeting James every day. I felt that I was on top of the world, and nothing could bring me back down to my real reality. But nothing lasts forever, right?
