four days later

As if things couldn't get any worse.

I hadn't been fired yet, but I expected it soon. I hadn't seen the new assistant anywhere, but I knew she was around. I could feel her presence when Reigns was out of his office.

Tonight was Roman's birthday party at Dean's house. I begged and pleaded for them to let me skip out on being apart of the party, but unfortunately they both just suggested that I just avoid him.

I dressed appropriately, making sure I wasn't too plain, nor to formal, for a small party like this one. I gathered Reigns' gift, which was just a bottle of his favorite (very expensive) cologne. It was hard picking out gifts, because everything he had told me he wanted previously was sexual and had to do with me and my body, so I had to settle on the only non-sexual thing I knew he liked.

Renee rushed me inside their house, where more than half the staff of SHIELD was waiting to surprise Reigns. Dean took my gift and put it in the kitchen before positioning me closer to the door.

"He said he would be here any minute," Dean told everyone, who all whispered to each other. I crossed my arms before a bright pair of headlights flashed through the window, and Dean rushed to shut the lights off.

"Everyone down!" Renee barked before there was a knock on the door. "Come in!"

The door opened and a well dressed Reigns walked inside. He jumped back as everyone shouted 'SURPRISE' and a cheeky smile spread across his face.

"I should've known you would have done something interesting," Reigns laughed, reaching to pat Dean's shoulder. "Thank you, everyone!"

"It wasn't me," Dean said simply, making me furrow my brows.

"Yeah, it was Piper's idea. We just told her she could have it here," Renee added, making my jaw about drop to the floor.

"No, no, this definitely—"

"You don't need to hide it, Pipes. It's real nice if you to throw the boss a party," Dean smirked, dropping his eye in a wink. I was slowly approached by Reigns, who had a brow raised at me with his arms crossed over his chest.

"You threw me a birthday party," he said simply.

"Surprise," I shrugged slightly before he took in a deep breath, leaning down to wrap his arms around my waist tightly.

"Thank you, Piper. I appreciate it," he hummed against my neck, making my eyes flutter closed.

"N-No problem," I whispered before music started playing through the room. "Enjoy, boss."

"You, too, Piper," he smiled before dropping his eye in a wink and walking towards the other colleagues.

"Yay, Piper! That's a step up!" Renee gushed before I turned angrily to her, letting out a deep sigh.

"What are you guys doing? Th-That was just ridiculous! Why would I throw him a party? He knows—"

"Because you love him, duh!" she smirked, making me take a step back and furrow my brows.

"No I don't," I said quickly.

"Yes you do, Pipes. It's blatantly obvious," Dean said, walking up closer to us.

"I've been hanging out with Finn. Reigns doesn't even look at me anymore, so why would I love him? Pfft, you guys sound—"

"Jesus, Piper," Dean groaned, tilting his head back. "We both know you like Roman, but if you insist on just hanging out with Bálor, go ahead,"
