Lainey had spent the day at Knight, working on a few things for Nate to keep her mind busy after the eventful night the team had just experienced. She was grateful for the distraction and Caleb loved the idea of having her safe at Knight, surrounded by the team the entire day.

Declan's deep voice echoed down the hallway followed by Lexi's soft one. She heard small footsteps and smiled brightly when Lex's figure appeared in the doorway. Lexi was dressed in workout clothes and had a bag over her shoulder.

"Hey sis! You busy?" Lexi said with a sweet smile.

"Just working on a few things for Nate."

"Oh I'll let you get back to it, just thought you might want to come with me to the ring today." Lexi offered.

Lainey looked down at the documents on her desk then back up at Lexi with a grin.

"I think I could take a short break." Lainey said.

"Are you sure? I heard your boss is a real jerk." Lexi sassed saying her last statement loudly.

"Watch it Lex." Nate said flatly from across the hall, getting nothing but an eye roll from Lexi in return.

"Where's Claire?" Lexi said, leaning out toward Nate's office.

"She and Natalie are reorganizing the fridge and pantry. Said it looked like a frat house." Nate chuckled.

"Well she's not wrong." Lexi returned, turning her attention back to Lainey.

"So what do ya say? You and me?" Lexi asked brightly with a smile that was hard to say no to.

"Sure." Lainey said, following Lexi down the hall and toward the large gym. She fired off a quick text to Caleb who was at the shooting range.

Kincaid was already standing in the ring, stretching out his muscular arms while Pierce, Slater, and Gunner lifted weights on the other side of the gym.

This place is massive. No wonder the boys spend so much time up here. It's got everything.

Giving Lexi a wide grin, Kincaid stepped on the ropes and separated them enough for Lexi to enter. She straightened her posture, looking up at Kincaid with determination on her face, skipping any small talk and getting right to business.

"Teach me how to disarm someone." Lexi said with a determined voice.

Lainey's head snapped up at Lexi's words, studying her from the bench where she was sitting. Lexi was a resilient little thing and Lainey couldn't help but admire her ability to adapt. She didn't wallow in self pity or become angry at the world, she assessed and adapted and Lainey was impressed to say the least.

"Fuck yes. That's what I'm talkin' about Lex." Kincaid praised.

"You want in on this Lainey?" Lexi said over her shoulder.

Now I understand why you brought me down here Lexi, you little sneak. You're scared for my safety, but didn't want to make me feel inferior or weak. I see you Lex - and I love you for it.

"Sure! I mean, I'm already down here right?" Lainey said giving Lexi a knowing smile.

"Kincaid got a dummy gun and let them practice different techniques of how to disarm someone if they were holding them at gunpoint.

Lainey memorized and cataloged every movement knowing how important the skills could be, especially to her. With Manny sending armies of hitmen to assassinate her, every self defense skill she could pick up would be a priceless asset.
