And over the next two months... absolutely nothing happened. Life was completely normal. It was almost as if what Marinette had said was coming true; maybe Lila was so grateful to be out of prison that she was going to stay out of trouble.
But the normalcy of those two months was not going to last forever. Eventually an eventful day was upon them.
Adrien woke up first one morning and made breakfast. After twenty minutes Marinette finally made her way to the kitchen and plopped herself down at the table. Then she rested her head on her arms.
"Everything okay?" Adrien asked, noticing her strange behavior.
"I've just been feeling a little tired lately. I think it's from all the extra work I've been doing to prepare for Fashion Week. It's really been taking a toll on me."
"Well here you go," Adrien said, bringing her breakfast over and placing it down in front of her. "I made oeufs cocotte today. Maybe this will give you some energy."
"Thank you Adrien." She picked up her fork and slowly started eating as he sat down beside her with his own food. But after a few bites she had to stop.
"Is there something wrong with the eggs?" he asked.
"No, there's nothing wrong. I just... don't really feel like eating."
Plagg flew over and held a piece of cheese up to her face. "You should try the eggs with Camembert instead of pesto, Marinette. It's just about the perfect topping for everything. Wait, what am I saying? It's definitely the perfect topping for everything. Especially more Camembert!"
Marinette waved him away with her hand. "Plagg, I already feel like I'm going to throw up. I don't need stinky cheese right in my face."
Adrien stopped eating. "You feel like you're going to throw up?"
She nodded.
A big smile crossed his face. "Do... do you think that you could be pregnant again?"
Marinette scrunched up her face for a second. The thought hadn't even occurred to her. "I don't think so. I mean, I'm definitely not feeling very good, but we haven't even been trying since the last miscarriage."
And Adrien stared at her, trying to contain his amusement. "You do understand how these things happen, right Marinette? We don't have to be officially trying for you to get pregnant." He leaned closer to her and lowered his voice. "You know that I've been taking advantage of you every chance that I get..."
"Adrien!" she protested, throwing an embarrassed glance at the kwamis.
Tikki laughed. "It's okay, Marinette. We know what goes on in your room."
"And in the shower," Plagg added.
"Not to mention the couch," Tikki continued.
"Don't forget right here on the..."
"Alright, I get it!" Marinette interrupted, putting her hand to her forehead in exasperation.
Adrien chuckled. "Do you have any more pregnancy tests?" he asked, turning the conversation back to its original subject.
"I think I have one left over from last time," she replied.
Adrien stood up and moved over to her. "Go test and see if you are!" he said excitedly, pulling her up to her feet.
"But I already used the bathroom. I don't have to pee again!"
"Just try. Please?"
She sighed. "Alright, I just don't want you to be disappointed if I'm not."
