The Level Up Short Story Contest

Welcome!

May and June are Writing month here at Level Up Your Writing. That means we have a very cool writing project set up and ready to go for you: a short story contest.

The point of this contest is to write a short story, or rather a whole bunch of them. Every week throughout May and June we publish a new writing prompt. You are challenged to write a short story based on the prompt. We are aiming for 500-1500 words per story, so that's actually more of a flash fiction than a short story, because we want you to be able to enter for every prompt.

There is a single winner every week, and a Grand Winner at the very end. The Grand Winner is the author who got the most votes from the judges throughout the entire competition. 

While we encourage you to write a story and enter every single week, we understand that life is busy for most of you. That is why this contest is super flexible. You can enter whenever you like and skip weeks whenever you get too busy (or if you simply don't like the prompt). There is no penalty for skipping a week (other than the fact that it lowers your chances on Grand Winner, perhaps). 

Don't feel like writing one week? Perhaps you'd like to judge instead! Judging, too, is kept very simple and flexible. You can judge whenever you feel like it and skip a week whenever you want. The only restriction is that you're not allowed to judge in the same week that you enter a story.

Oh, and if you need another reason to join: participating will get you 5 XP in our Level Up Your Writing game (every week!) and judging will get you 5 XP too. 

The first prompt will be posted on May 3rd, as that's the first Monday in May. :)
